Holford homes are close to parks, shopping centers and a well-regarded school district

The appeal of Holford – located in Garland, Texas, and named after early 20th-century Garland Times editor William A. Holford – is not exactly breaking news. Folks have been drawn to the area's charming retro homes, sprawling neighborhood park and convenient location for decades. "It's a popular area for a lot of people," says Realtor Paula Gatlin with Coldwell Banker Apex. "They like the mature trees and older custom homes. Plus, it's close to major thoroughfares, which makes it an easy commute into Dallas." With Dallas 15 miles away, Holford is within reach of some of the most prominent employers in the Metroplex. Within 5 miles of Holford is downtown Garland, which has undergone recent renovations that exceeded $25 million. The new downtown includes an imaginative play area and a community lawn where residents enjoy live music and other events, illuminated by prism gateways.

70s, 80s and 90s bungalows designed by Fox & Jacobs

Most of the homes in Holford are Traditional or midcentury, single-family bungalows built in the 1970s, 1980s, and into the mid-1990s. Like neighboring Camelot, homes were crafted by prominent Dallas-area developer Fox & Jacobs and often have older, custom features like crown molding and wet bars, which Gatlin says are making a comeback. Prices for Holford's older retro homes tend to fall between $225,000 and $580,000, depending on the property size. According to Gatlin, square footage varies between 1,000 to 5,100 square feet, with three to four bedrooms, which are lower price points than other Garland neighborhoods.
