Tucked away coastal area with picturesque views
Set 9 miles north of downtown Gold Beach, secluded, rural Nesika Beach is known for its scenic beach views and convenient location. “It’s on the outskirts, yet it’s a quick drive into town,” says Kristina Ringer, broker for Southern Oregon Roots Realty and lifelong resident of Nesika Beach. Folks here can shop at the beloved, locally owned Nesika Beach Market, go surfing, fishing or strolling along the mocha-brown sand beach, or take in the Pacific Ocean scenery along U.S. Route 101 (also known as the Oregon Coast Highway). Ringer says Nesika Beach residents tend to travel a few miles outside the neighborhood for area shops and hiking trails, and enjoy lending each other a helping hand. “People here'll mow each other’s lawns, and if they don’t see someone for a few days, they’ll go up to their door and check on them. Neighbors definitely know each other here,” she says.

Historic sites and trails just outside Nesika Beach
Nesika Beach has several miles' worth of coastline to explore. Residents venture out to the sandy shore in the summer to dig for clams at low tide, and in the fall brings prime surfing conditions, with less wind and more consistent, white-capped waves. At the southern tip, the forested Geisel Monument State Heritage Site commemorates the 19th-century history of the local Geisel family during the Rogue River Wars; here beside the ocean, visitors can check out the 125-year-old family gravestones, stroll a paved walking path or relax at the shaded picnic tables. Four miles south of Nesika Beach, the 121-acre Otter Point State Recreation Site has hiking trails along rocky sandstone bluffs that offer stunning views of the jutting rock formations amid the wild, teal-blue ocean waters below. Anglers can either cast their reels from shore in Nesika Beach or travel 8 miles south to the Port of Gold Beach marina to undock their boats and set out onto the Rogue River in hopes of catching large salmon or steelhead trout.

Single-family homes within walking distance of the beach
The mostly single-family homes here are set near the neighborhood's western border, and sometimes right along the coast; they line narrow, well-paved streets that branch off two-way Nesika Road and are dotted with Ponderosa pines and fir trees. In the neighborhood's south, small mid- to late 20th-century Craftsman-style bungalows with vinyl exteriors sit on quarter-acre lots, their open, grassy yards offering enough room for RV parking; priced between $250,000 and $400,000, some of these bungalows appeal to buyers as investment opportunities, either to rent out or flip. Further north and closer to the beachfront, larger, newer properties are perched along sandy bluffs within walking distance of the beach. Often used as seasonal vacation rentals, these homes are either early 21st-century bungalows that range from $450,000 to $650,000, or two-story, early 2000s Craftsman-style houses that have vinyl siding, multiple balconies and a price range of $800,000 to $1 million.

Each September, residents gather at the neighborhood's Ophir Fire Station for the annual Ophir Day celebration. During this fundraiser sponsored by Nesika Beach Market, attendees get to try on firefighter gear, compete in a cornhole tournament, and gather in fold-up chairs to feast on some BBQ. In July, Nesika Beach residents travel 8 miles south to the Port of Gold Beach for the Go 4th on Rogue River Festival, which includes a dance party, classic car show and nighttime fireworks show.
Stopping by Nesika Beach Market for sandwiches and essentials
Nesika Beach Market is the neighborhood's go-to convenience store, where locals can pick up groceries, browse through newspapers or order a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich from the in-store deli counter. Seven miles south in downtown Gold Beach, there are dozens of locally owned eateries; these include The Port Hole Café and Tap House, which serves home-style clam chowder and fresh baked pies, and Sunset Family Pizza, which offers steamy-hot specialty pizzas paired with side salads. Also downtown, the popular, eclectic Jerry’s Rogue River Museum and Gift Shop sits beside the river, selling everything from Sasquatch mugs to sea-themed wind chimes. And at the Gold Beach Books and Art Gallery, folks can browse used and rare titles while sipping hot lattes.

Preparing locals for future tsunamis
While the Oregon Coast doesn't experience hurricanes, underwater earthquakes can stimulate tsunamis in the area; in March 2011, the Great Tohoku Japan Earthquake shifted a massive tsunami toward the coast, causing significant damage to the inland area. Curry County will use a siren to notify residents of incoming tsunamis, and evacuation maps can be found on the county’s main website.
