Rural, small-town feel close enough to access all that Nashville offers

Imagine living close enough to busy downtown Nashville to enjoy all the amenities of city life, yet far enough away to be able to look up and see a night sky filled with stars. That defines life in the small town of Millersville. Located on the Cumberland Plateau in the Appalachian Foothills, the area consists of rolling hills, rocky outcroppings and sometimes rugged terrain. Millersville is about 18 miles north of Nashville. Just a few years ago, the area consisted mostly of woods and farms. “Millersville is a very rural town. Time seems to have stood still here,” says Betty Robinson of Reliant Realty ERA Powered. Although it still retains its small-town personality, the population of this community has grown somewhat in recent years as prospective homebuyers realize what the area has to offer. Today, a handful of subdivisions have sprung up along the Interstate 65 corridor that runs through the community.

Private driveways and large lots

Home prices in the area range from about $250,000 for a 2-bedroom ranch-style home to about $700,000 for an Arts and Crafts-style home on a large lot. “Housing in Millersville is still mostly mobile homes, older ranch-styles, and wood-frame farmhouses,” says Robinson. Newer homes tend to be modern colonials and Craftsman-style. Most homes in Millersville are set on bigger lots with large front yards and private driveways. There are very few areas in the neighborhood that have sidewalks.

Millersville City Park, a resident favorite

Millersville City Park is one of the area’s favorite destinations for community events, family outings and Saturday get-togethers. The park is home to a large playground and pavilions, and the nearby community center has meeting rooms and a spacious reception hall that hosts community events. Just outside of the Millersville neighborhood is Moss Wright Park. This 147-acre park is the largest in the area and is home to baseball diamonds and soccer fields, as well as a fitness area, walking trails and a playground. Nearby Historic Mansker’s Station includes a fort built in 1779. Interpreters explain the region’s early history and offer tours of the oldest brick home in Middle Tennessee. In September, Millersville’s Fall Festival brings live music, children's activities and a host of vendors and food trucks to the gathered locals and visitors.

Hunter Middle School, both rated A by Niche, and Beech High School, rated B. One of the high school’s highlights is its students’ enthusiastic participation in the DECA Club. 18-mile commute to downtown Nashville

Millersville is car-dependent. While some areas of the neighborhood are bikeable, residents will need a vehicle to get around. Distances between homes can be several miles over winding country roads. There is no train or bus service available. Interstate 65 runs through the middle of the community, making the 18-mile drive to downtown Nashville and back home again relatively simple. The drive takes about a half-hour during light traffic times, and extends to nearly forty-five minutes when traffic is at its peak. Convenient access to Interstate 65 makes for relatively easy commutes to busy downtown Nashville and back home to the peace and quiet of Millersville.
