About Grand Ledge, MI

A suburb on the rise

Grand Ledge is a quaint suburb of Lansing that’s growing in population and business development. This city got its name from being situated along the Grand River. It was once recognized as a resort area at the turn of the 19th century, being a popular tourist destination. The city’s heart shines through art, which connects back to its history. “The people really make the community. I moved here seven years ago, and as soon as I drove in, it felt comforting, and it felt like home,” says Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amy Hoyes. “What keeps me here is all the amenities in the community plus the feeling of being home.”

Colonial and farmhouse abodes

Housing in Grand Ledge is a combination of older and newer construction. Homebuyers looking more in the city will find the older properties built before 1950. These historic-looking homes average around three bedrooms and at least 1,500 square feet of space. Since houses are closer together, there are moderate-sized front lawns or backyards. Architecturally, these are bi-level, federal colonial, or farmhouse-style homes priced from $150,000 to $300,000. The newer constructions are on the outskirts towards Interstate 69 on the east side. These carry standard amenities of three to four bedrooms and multi-car garages. These craftsman-style homes are priced between $350,000 to $700,000.

Shops on Bridge Street

“We definitely had more retail pop up on our Main drag called Bridge Street, including boutique outlets,” Hoyes says. “You can walk up and down Bridge Street and get breakfast and shop.” Toads is a smaller café that’s beloved for its eclectic décor, coffee, and light lunch options like paninis and salads. Enjoy a hefty and homemade dinner from Cugino’s. This family restaurant serves decadent Italian favorites of pasta, pizza and calzones. Flour Child Bakery and Café has some of the best bagels in Lansing, being named best from 2019 to 2022. Weekly groceries can be grabbed at Meijer just off Saginaw Highway. “There’s local Grand Ledge items, antiques, arts and craftsy stuff,” Hoyes says. “There are different bars. It’s livable and walkable. We can walk to the library and the riverwalk.”

Grand Ledge loves parades

Events in Grand Ledge are typically put together by the Chamber of Commerce and draw big crowds. “We do 12 free community events a year. Yankee Doodle Day is popular, and that kicks off summer. That’s kind of our Fourth of July celebration,” Hoyes says. “This event has a parade component. We do free concerts for nine weeks in the summer in Jaycee Park. In the fall, we do a fall festival. It includes crafts, vendors, food, and beer.” Locals are also drawn to the parades held throughout the year. “We love parades. The chamber alone does three parades a year. St. Patrick’s Day, Yankee Doodle and the Night Light Christmas Parade,” Hoyes said.
