Life on the bay with plenty to explore just a short walk away

East Shore Drive is a bayside community where residents enjoy a secluded home life by the water, with plenty to explore, from a wildlife sanctuary to an amusement park, all within walking distance. "It's a mix of multi-generational homeowners and new homeowners," explains Tara Kos Sherman, the broker and owner of Legacy First LLC, who is a native of Green Bay. "Where other areas may be unattainable for the average homebuyer, East Shore Drive is bringing in new life for those looking to get on the water at a lower price point."

Cheap rides at Beach Bay Amusement Park

On the community's east side is Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, which offers free close-up looks at an array of wildlife, from wolves to cougars, and an educational guide about each. Residents head here for some tranquility, while thrills are across the street at Beach Bay Amusement Park. Rides aside, locals and tourists appreciate the park's pricing. "It is owned by the city and not privately, so the tickets are still extremely cheap for rides," says Sherman. "They even moved Elvis's favorite roller coaster, the Zippin Pippin, to the park and rebuilt it." Residents enjoy boating activities at home, with waterfront homes featuring private docks and a public boat launch off Bay Beach Road for those living further back from the bay.

The homes of East Shore Drive

The community is a sliver that hugs the bay, just 2 miles from one end to the other. Roughly two-thirds of its homes line both sides of Lakeside Place, a narrow one-lane residential street. Houses here sit close together, some with just a few feet separating some from the next. With a speed limit of 15 miles per hour, residents can take morning strolls worry-free while catching glimpses of the bay between homes. The remaining third of the community breaks off directly from East Shore Drive, providing longer driveways and more significant acreage, typically 0.5 acres or more. Architectural styles here are mostly ranch and new traditional styles, seen with light blue, cream and wood-paneled exteriors synonymous with waterfront styling. Prices for homes in the community start at $320,000, while waterfront homes atop larger acreage reach up to $650,000.

Drinks at Crown & Common

Residents make the 3-mile drive downtown to pick up groceries from SuperValu Foods, pick up fresh produce from the much anticipated Saturday Farmers Market in summer, as well as to peruse the area's big-name retailers at East Town shopping mall off of East Mason Street. Tucked into a historic building is Crown & Common, a frequented bar and grill appreciated for its array of draft beers with 30 handles. Closer to home is Mi Pueblo Restaurant, which serves authentic Mexican fare and margaritas to enjoy after a day out on the water.

Green Bay Yard Waste Collection

At the end of Michigan Avenue, toward the neighborhood's eastern side, is Green Bay Yard Waste Collection. The site is closed during winter but is open daily during the remainder of the year. Though concerns regarding fair odors are fair, it does not collect residential waste, just natural waste like yard clippings and overgrown trees. Many stop by in spring to grab mulch for landscaping and gardening purposes.
