A quiet community with a residential lake at its heart
Lake Largo was once a chunk of farmland a few miles south of the bay that saw a drastic transformation in the late 1980s when a developer purchased the land and carved out a residential lake. Homes soon followed, creating one of few communities in the area with waterfront views. As a result, residents of the small community enjoy a tucked-away life on the water while finding creative ways to connect with neighbors. “I grew up in the Green Bay area and never knew this place existed,” says Jeri Lynne, a resident and owner of Designs By Jeri Lynne. “I can look out the back window while working from my desk and feel like I am on a cruise ship.”

Kayaking and bird watching on Lake Largo
It’s common practice to appreciate views of the lake from backyard patios and private docks, where many also enjoy fishing. Alongside are those who like to take kayaks out for coasting under the sun. However, it’s not just residents who want to spend time on the lake. “We get to watch all kinds of birds come through the area from our patio,” Lynne says. “It’s a stopping point for migrating birds, so it's not unusual to see pelicans, great blue herons and all kinds of ducks.” When residents aren’t spending time outside, some make a 3-mile trip to catch popular shows like “The Nutcracker” at The Weidner, a performing arts theater to the north at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus.

Lake Largo's waterfront homes
Though sidewalks are absent, Lake Largo’s curved residential streets are wide enough for residents who like to take morning walks. With plot sizes averaging around 0.3 acres, lake views are appreciated in almost every part of the community, even those further back from the waterfront. Its homes come in ranch, New Traditional and modern Craftsman styles, built through the 1980s and 1990s. Many showcase high-reaching roofs, fresh lawn mower lines and detailed landscaping in the form of stone edging and bushes that frame the home. Free-standing condos, which sit on the western side, make up roughly half of the housing stock. These fall on the lower end of the price range, which spans from $230,000 to $775,000 for larger free-standing homes.

The Ladies of Lake Largo
According to Lynne, many residents are snowbirds who come for only a few months out of the year. As a response, the neighborhood committee throws social events for newcomers who want to get to know their neighbors. These include several cookouts throughout the year, puzzle swaps with drinks and the Ladies of Lake Largo group, which hosts occasional trips for those interested. It also has a newsletter highlighting different residents in a get-to-know-you style.
