Where the heart doesn’t want to leave

Bordered by three busy roads, Green Park is a small municipality in South St. Louis County that become its own city in 1995. Located twelve miles from downtown St. Louis, this small city has less than 3,000 people and is full of young, old, and the in-between who don’t want to leave. “I moved out the couple next door to me, they were 94 and 95 and still didn’t want to leave,” says Carol Hamilton, long-time resident, an alderman for Green Park and a Realtor and Broker with Platinum Realty of St. Louis. The roads are well-maintained, and people love their homes and neighbors. Filled with more than just good neighbors, the revenue generated from the utility taxes allows many amenities for all residents. “I moved away for ten years at one point, but my heart never left Green Park,” Hamilton says.

1970s single story homes and some new construction on hills

Green Park is defined by ranch, split-levels and bi-levels lined on hilly roads. Living up to its name, the neighborhood is full of trees and foliage. With a median price of $245,500, all three home styles often sell between $200,000 and $300,000. “We’re a pretty defined area now,” says Hamilton. “We’ve built to the edges.” Most homes were built in the 1960s and 70s, but there are some new traditional homes to the east of the neighborhood that generally begin selling between $300,000 and $430,000. While some have elements of ranch style homes, most are two levels with brick and/or white vinyl siding.

In-neighborhood groceries and dining on Lindbergh

Residents can shop at Fresh Thyme Market or ALDI within the neighborhood. “Lindbergh has so many choices,” says Hamilton. “I sometimes refer to it as Restaurant Row.” South Lindbergh Boulevard has fast-food options for those in a rush, such as Church’s Texas Chicken for some spicy chicken tenders, but for those with more time, try Italian dishes at The Pasta House Co. or Bartolino’s South. Half a mile from the southeastern city limits, the South County Center has over 100 stores including Dillard’s and Macy’s.
