Country Park Acres is surrounded by nature and prominent neighborhoods
Country Park Acres is a fitting name for this neighborhood for multiple reasons. On one hand, the suburb sits directly east of Greensboro’s Country Park. And on the other, the area’s prominent forests and decent-sized lots make residents feel like they’re living in their own private, leafy getaway. “It’s a cute area,” says John Nosek, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway who has been selling homes in the Piedmont Triad for 8 years. “The layout is typical of Greensboro in that there’s a neighborhood park, Three Meadows Park, where you’ll see families congregate.”
Robert Canner, owner of Robert B. Canner Real Estate, emphasizes that Country Park Acres’ proximity to distinguished communities such as New Irving Park spells for a bright future. “That whole area is golden,” says Canner, a 38-year resident of Greensboro. “It’s a great location, because it’s right by Country Park, and it’s surrounded by wealthy neighborhoods which are increasing the neighborhood’s desirability and helping home values rise. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy something there, especially if it needed fixing up.”
Ranch-style homes and other builds immersed in forests
Country Park Acres was built up during the latter half of the 20th century, from the 1950s through the ‘90s. Streets tend to be on the narrower side, but the neighborhood’s long driveways are more than capable of accommodating three automobiles or more. There’s a lot of split-levels in the area, otherwise it’s mostly ranch-style homes,” Nosek says. “But on average, homes have more square footage than in neighborhoods like Spicewood.”
Ranch-style builds are the most common, along with Colonial Revivals, split-levels and the occasional Cape Cod. The median lot stands at a third of an acre in size, with most parcels populated by mature trees and manicured shrubberies. Many residents have a forest for a backyard. Single-family home prices typically run from $250,000 to $500,000. Single-story and two-story townhouses with the vinyl siding and exterior shutters characteristic of Colonial Revival houses follow Apple Tree Lane on the neighborhood's south end. These builds cost between $200,000 and $250,000. On average, properties sell within two weeks.
Country Park spans 400 acres and abounds with activities
Country Park sits immediately west of the neighborhood, the source of the community’s name and abundance of outdoor activities. Spanning over 400 acres, the sprawling green space offers several miles of hiking trails, a zip line, playgrounds, seasonally rentable pedal boats, a leash-free dog park and more. The park’s fishing lakes are stocked with catfish, bass and crappie. The Greensboro Science Center is just north of Country Park, featuring an interactive museum, aquarium and an expansive zoo with a variety of species such as red pandas and Nile crocodiles. Guilford Courthouse National Military Park invites residents to walk a Revolutionary War battlefield and stop by the visitor center to learn about Cornwallis’ Southern Campaign. Three Meadows Park is a small pocket park on the northeast corner of Country Park Acres which offers a playground, a picnic table and forested walking trails.
South of Interstate 840
Ramps to Interstate 840 are less than 2 miles north of the neighborhood via Lawndale Drive. This highway forms the northern half of the Greensboro Urban Loop, a 40-mile beltway which circles the Gate City. Thanks to Lawndale Drive, Downtown Greensboro is only a 5-mile drive south. The Piedmont Triad International Airport sits about 10 miles west of Country Park Acres. Greensboro Transit Agency bus route 17 heads north up Lawndale Drive and south to the J. Douglas Gaylon Depot in downtown.
Supermarkets at restaurants along Lawndale Drive and Battleground Avenue
Lawndale North Shopping Center sits on the southwest corner of the neighborhood, home to The Fresh Market, an upscale supermarket; CharBar No. 7, a restaurant popular for watching the game and enjoying burgers; Delicious Bakery; and more. Other shopping and eating options line Battleground Avenue just west of the neighborhood. Sprouts Farmers Market specializes in organic produce, non-GMO and gluten free products and more. Other supermarkets up and down the road include Trader Joe’s, Aldi and for Italian products, Giacomo’s Italian Market. Fashioned like a classic 1950s diner, Herbie’s Place serves breakfast all day long on top of American favorite such as grilled chicken sandwiches and T-bone steak. Chefs prepare salmon, shrimp and other hibachi meals before patrons’ eyes at Sapporo Fantasy Japanese Steak and Seafood House. Green Joe’s Coffee Company invites patrons to enjoy hot and cold coffee, smoothies, pastries and more.
Career and technical education pathways at Page High
James Y. Joyner Elementary sits within a 2-mile drive of most homes and receives an overall C-plus from Niche. Mendenhall Middle earns a B, while Page High gets a B-plus. Page High offers several career and technical education pathways such as accounting, electrical trades and sport and event marketing.
Independence Day in Kirkwood
The Kirkwood neighborhood 2 miles to the south puts on a Fourth of July celebration open to the public. Streets are closed off to make way for vendors, games and activities, as children decorate the streets with red, white and blue stars in chalk. A parade marches through the street in the late afternoon, and the evening concludes with fireworks.
