Small homes near big shopping centers
As Wendover Avenue heads west toward shopping centers and the suburbs, the highway passes through the Hewitt Area, a residential enclave with towering, mature trees and cozy one-story homes. “It’s a wonderful area to live and raise a family or purchase a home,” says Will Gaddy, a Realtor with eXp Realty LLC who has been in the business for almost three years. “There’s a lot of green spaces, but it’s also close to the highway.” It’s also within 4 miles of Friendly Center, an open-air mall, and Four Seasons Town Centre, a three-story mall with retailers, a bowling alley and more.

Bungalows and Minimal Traditional homes from the early 1900s
The Hewitt Area is roughly shaped like a bowtie, and most residences are concentrated near the knot. Bungalows and Minimal Traditional houses line the neighborhood’s streets, though there are a few ranch-style builds and two-story Colonial Revivals. Most homes were completed between the 1900s and 1950s, though 21st-century constructions occasionally enter the market. Driveways can be short or long and paved or gravel, but most streets offer plenty of roadside parking. The median lot size is just under a quarter of an acre, and many parcels are decorated with shrubs and mature trees. Single-family homes sell from $90,000 to $300,000, depending on condition and interior space, though the market is usually quiet. Several large apartment complexes sit within the neighborhood, and nearly 90% of residents are renters. The Hewitt Area gets a CAP Index crime score of 7 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4, with contributing scores of 8 in motor vehicle theft and 9 in larceny.
Hewitt Area homes are sometimes fenced in and slightly off the street.
