Greensboro neighborhood close to much fun
Located in the northeastern pocket of the city, O Henry Oaks is a neighborhood in a greater part of Greensboro that has started to experience some changes. Youth athletes and almost any resident looking to stay active are blessed as recreational spots can be found on almost all sides of the neighborhood. East Cone Boulevard bisects the community and provides a direct route to Buffalo Lake, located about a mile west of the neighborhood. Although it’s a private lake, this otherwise scenic area has been known to attract bird watchers. Outdoors aside, residents don’t need to travel far to meet their needs, as both shops and dining can be found both near the heart of the neighborhood and right along its eastern bounds. “It’s a generally nice neighborhood to live in, close to public transportation, with a lot of stores and restaurants nearby. There are a lot of families within the neighborhood,” says Jayla Hankins, one of the owners of JW Realty and also one of the property managers for the Unity Place Apartments right off the corner of East Cone and Summit Avenue. “It’s a pretty convenient place to live. It’s close to the city in Greensboro. You can get to where you need to go within 15 minutes or so. They also have a beautiful park that runs through it, with beautiful playground equipment, so the neighborhood loves that.”
Flanked by top sports facilities
With the Greensboro Sportsplex just east of the neighborhood, youth athletes in the area have access to a myriad of amenities at the 106,000-square-foot facility. The venue boasts several soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts and a hockey rink. It has even set up a ring for wrestling events. This multisport venue has housed planned athletic activities like summer basketball camps and soccer clinics. Ceiling-high see-through curtains can be used to cordon off multiple organized basketball games. Founded by a former Boston Red Sox player, the Greensboro Batting Center just west of the neighborhood has been a local favorite for over three decades now. In addition to their use of the baseball diamond, many area ball players visit the facility to practice in the traditional batting cage or even receive individualized coaching. The 7-acre Joe Davis Park on the south end of the neighborhood features open green spaces, which radio-controlled car enthusiasts occasionally use. Friends also often gather for games on the softball field.

Mid-20th century ranch-style houses
Groups of tall and mature trees found around traditional or minimalist brick ranch-style houses contribute to the peaceful and charming vibe of several neighborhood blocks here. Short and narrow driveways accompany much of these homes, with some vehicles occasionally found parked under carports. Skillfully crafted garden beds with colorful plantings occasionally adorn small, but lush front yards. Much of these ranch-style homes date back to the mid-20th century and number have undergone renovations, particularly on the interior where there have been distinct and modern additions like an electric shiplap fireplace. Price points for these homes can run both under and over $200,000. There are also some smaller, albeit more economic, housing options like two-bedroom condos that can be found for right under $100,000.
