Northern Greensboro neighborhood close to Piedmont Triad International Airport
As Interstate 840 curves around Northern Greensboro, it hugs Quaker Run. This small suburban enclave, first developed in the late 20th century, is growing once again. A new townhouse community is rising in the neighborhood's southern end. "Folks are attracted to Quaker Run because it's conveniently close to shopping and the new American Family Urgent Care," says Stacy Hiers, a Realtor with RE/MAX Realty Consultants who has worked in the Greensboro area since 2003. "People like being close to airports like the Piedmont Triad International and Interstate 40, too." That, coupled with access to good public and private schools, plus some of the area's most popular sports complexes, are why Quaker Run is becoming a community in demand.

Colonial Revivals and townhouses from the 1990s through today
Quaker Run’s single-family homes rest along wide streets without sidewalks that often end in cul-de-sacs. Most homes are 1990s Colonial Revivals, varying from classic all-brick builds to more contemporary forms with lofted entryways and attached two-car garages. Living space is ample, with homes averaging over 2,100 square feet, compared to the national average of 1,930 square feet. Lots are just as spacious, typically between a ¼ and ½ acre. Yards are neatly landscaped, adorned with garden beds, shaped shrubs and tall shade trees. Prices range from $285,000 to $440,000. Built between the early 2000s and today, several townhouse communities dot Quaker Run. Units cost as low as $195,000 and as much as $710,000. The 2,700 square feet units in the new Elim at Horse Pen Creek development sit at the top of the market.
Potential buyers should note the neighborhood’s closeness to Piedmont International Airport and Interstate 840. “You’ll definitely hear airport noise,” says Angela Moran, a Realtor with United Realty Group. “It kind of depends on where you are, but one neighbor may say they hear the noise of I-840, and another may say they don’t,” says Moran, who moved to Greensboro in 2010 and used to live near the neighborhood.

There are also several private options nearby. The A-plus-rated Greensboro Montessori School is in the neighborhood, providing prekindergarten through ninth grade. Two lakes, two sports complexes and the Bicentennial Greenway
Quaker Run's access to parks and recreational spaces is a big draw. Carolyn S. Allen Regional Park and Athletic Complex sits at the neighborhood's northern end and hosts youth baseball and softball tournaments from March through October. Each of the park's four fields offers bleacher seating, stadium lights and concessions. Proehlific Park is a nearby destination for exercise. Marketed as family-friendly, the facility offers youth and adult leagues for soccer, field hockey, and pickleball, as well as group fitness classes and personal training. The neighborhood features several access points for the Bicentennial Greenway, which connects to Greensboro's extensive greenway system. The 14-mile trail weaves through dense groves of pine and hardwood trees, allowing birdwatchers to spot robins, woodpeckers and sparrows. Lake Higgins and Lake Brandt are a short drive away for hiking, boating and fishing. Guilford County's 250-acre Bur-Mil Park sits next to Lake Brandt. Experienced navigators can take on the park's Orienteering Course. There's also a playground, an aquatic center and the Frank Sharpe Jr. Wildlife Education Center. Quaker Run is close to several golf clubs, including Greensboro Country Club.

Trendy restaurants and Friendly Center
Two large shopping centers to the south along New Garden Road feature dozens of stores, from Lowes Foods and The Fresh Market to Target and Marshalls. Higher-end brands like Kendra Scott and Simply Southern fill Friendly Center, about 6 miles away. Local restaurants dot Battleground Avenue to the east, including Rody's Tavern, a favorite for Moran and her family. "It's a little sports pub bar. They're always super busy with live music two or three times a week." Dear Dad's Restaurant, a newer eatery across the street from Rody's, is quickly gaining a following for its chic décor and brunch-focused menu. "Restaurants have gone in and out of the space there the entire time I've lived here, and this is the first one that people really love. I'm talking lines out the door," Moran says. Elizabeth's Pizza is a longtime favorite for Italian classics, and Wasabi Sushi & Teriyaki is a beloved spot serving Japanese cuisine.

Quick access to the Greensboro Urban Loop
Quaker Run is a car-dependent community and doesn’t have access to the Greensboro Transit Agency bus system. Joseph M. Bryan Boulevard is nearby for the 8-mile commute into Downtown Greensboro. It also connects to Interstate 840, known as the Greensboro Urban Loop. The highway circles the city, leading to Interstate 40, a mountain-to-sea route through North Carolina. Piedmont Triad International Airport is roughly 5 miles west, and the new American Family Urgent Care is a little over a mile south, offering primary care, urgent care and on-site lab work.
