Classic American suburb with rare opportunities to buy
Not to be confused with the larger Three Meadows neighborhood nearby, The Meadows at Richland Creek, referred to as The Meadows, is a small covenant-controlled community in Northern Greensboro. The neighborhood’s location, just south of the Urban Loop along Lake Jeanette Road, provides residents with quick access to all the amenities on this side of the city. “One of the area libraries is down the road from there. It’s a really nice library. There are some walking trails relatively close. You’ve got Lake Jeanette, and you’re right down the road from Country Park and the Science Center,” says Wayne Young, a real estate agent with Allen Tate Realtors who lives nearby. A line of hardwood trees helps dampen the roar of highway vehicles passing by. “There’s enough buffer that you hear it a little bit, but it’s not that impactful,” Young explains. With only 134 homes on six streets that end in cul-de-sacs, prospective buyers here can expect to know their future neighbors.
Traditional suburban home styles on highly manicured lots
Housing in The Meadows depicts that of a classic American suburb. Freshly mowed lawns, cozy back patios, and picket fences embellish spacious homes from the late 1990s. Most quarter-acre lots have at least one flourishing tree in their front yards, and several residents decorate further with floral arrangements and shrubs. Homes are between 1,300 to 2,000 square feet and come in several iterations of three or four-bedroom Colonial Revival and ranch-style designs with attached two-car garages. Prices range from $250,000 to $400,000. Homeowners here pay $55 quarterly dues to the homeowners association, which holds community events like neighbor meet and greets and food pantry drives. Potential buyers should prepare to move quickly, as properties sell after only two days on the market, compared to the national average of 42 days.
Above-average Guilford County Schools
Children here can attend James Y. Joyner Elementary School. Earning a B-minus on its Niche report card, the school has a student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1. Next in line is Mendenhall Middle School. In addition to its B-rating, Mendenhall hosts many engaging events like Valentine's Day dances, fundraisers and athletic events. Teens move on to B-plus-rated Page High School, which offers a competitive athletics program winning multiple state championships. For families interested in private, Montessori or charter schools, Greensboro Day School, Canterbury School, Greensboro Montessori School and Greensboro Academy are nearby options.
A big city park and a private lake nearby
The neighborhood is just over a mile from the tree-lined shores of Lake Jeanette, artificial in 1940. Residents can walk or bike along a paved trail to reach a wooden pedestrian bridge crossing over the calm water. They can join The Lake Jeanette Swim and Tennis Club to gain access to the private Marina on the other side. Most locals head to Country Park for outdoor recreation. The 400-acre park is one of the biggest in the city, featuring a mountain bike zone, miles of walking trails, a dog park and two lakes stocked for fishing. Families can enjoy one of the many playgrounds, rent a pedal boat or go for a few rounds on the Greensboro Science Center’s carousel.
Shopping and Dining along Battleground Avenue
A great thing about living in Northern Greensboro is that there are many retail options. Food Lion is the closest grocery store, but many residents head further west toward the Brassfield Shopping Center, anchored by a Trader Joe's and Lowe’s Outlet. A Walmart Supercenter is just down the street. Hungry shoppers step into Giacomo's Italian Market to pick up fresh pasta, homemade rice balls, Italian meats and a specialty sandwich to-go. Residents can cross New Garden Road to buy and sell secondhand clothing at Uptown Cheapskate or pick up a floral arrangement at Botanica Flowers and Gifts. Locals visit Craft City Sip-In to find the perfect bottle of ale or vino to pair with a meal at home.
Easy access to the Greensboro Urban Loop
Residents can use sidewalks to reach Glenn McNairy Branch Library, where a library card grants access to 3D printers and three book clubs. Driving is the primary way people get around the city. Downtown Greensboro is a 6-mile drive, and Piedmont Triad International Airport is 9 ½ miles away via Interstate 840, the Greensboro Urban Loop. While there are no bike lanes nearby, cyclists can ride the bike-friendly Cottage Place to connect to a network of biking trails leading to destinations around the city. Residents head to Greensboro Station downtown to catch an Amtrak train or Greyhound bus.
