About Greenville, WI

The village of Greenville is rapidly growing

The village of Greenville is a growing community home to over 12,000 residents just a few miles northwest of Appleton. Though its roots were planted in the 19th century, the village was only recently incorporated in 2021 and now stands as one of the largest villages by population in the state of Wisconsin. “Compared to 20 years ago, we’ve grown exponentially, and it’s due in part to how close we are to Appleton,” says Loren Dieck, Greenville’s director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry. “We have desirable homes, a great school system and proximity to all the amenities that residents find desirable, so the growth is difficult to keep up with.”

Modern homes are attracting young families

Many of Greenville’s residential streets weave into neat subdivisions off Greenville Drive. Most homes date back to the early 2000s, showcasing new traditional architecture on spacious, leafy lots. Green pastures and farmland surround modern developments on the village outskirts, where those closest to the airport may experience flight noise. “The fact that there are so many new homes built out here is a big draw for young families,” Dieck says. “When you’re talking about urban sprawl, we’re the definition of it… We’re known for our residential development.” Overall, the median home price in Greenville is slightly above the national median and a bit more expensive than Appleton.

The Hortonville Area School District ranks No. 2 in the county

The Hortonville Area School District ranks No. 2 in Outagamie County and earns a B-plus on Niche. Encompassing the greater West Fox Cities region, the district oversees one elementary school and one middle school within Greenville. Students come together at Hortonville High School. Immanuel Lutheran School and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School offer private, faith-based curriculums for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. Greenville is also home to the Fox Valley Technical College Public Safety Training Center, which provides training for recruits in local law enforcement and emergency services.

Over 200 acres of parks and recreational spaces

Jennerjohn Park sits at the heart, home to a popular playground and shaded, grassy knolls. “It’s a staple because it was one of our first parks in Greenville and it still has many of its original features,” Dieck says. “There’s even a sledding hill and ice rink in the winter.” He cites that the ball fields at Greenville Community Park and the Greenville Sports Complex often host local leagues, including the Fox Cities United Soccer Club. Throughout the year, residents can hike and snowshoe along the village’s 8 miles of multi-use trails. “We recently had the Highway 15 trail put in that runs from Greenville to Hortonville,” Dieck continues. “It’s quickly becoming our most popular because it’s paved and it’s long.” Those seeking indoor recreation typically head to the Fox West YMCA for its fitness center, community pool and youth programming.

The annual Catfish Extravaganza attracts big-name musicians

Greenville comes alive in the summertime with a packed roster of communitywide events. The Greenville Lions Club hosts the annual Catfish Extravaganza, a lively festival in July featuring catfish races, a celebratory catfish fry and the Catfish Concert. Past performers, including The Beach Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Joan Jett, have drawn thousands to the 57-acre stretch of Greenville Lions Park. “The Lions Club is big, especially with the development of Lions Park and the events there,” Dieck says. “The development continues on an annual basis because they’re always adding amenities.” Over at Village Hall, Sustain Greenville’s Farmer’s Market runs from June to September. Baked goods, crafts and fresh produce are paired with special events, like Electronics Recycling Day, to promote sustainability throughout the village.

Minutes from Grand Chute’s wholesale grocers and retailers

From classic American bites at Field & Fire to sweet treats and ice cream at The Twist, Greenville offers a variety of locally owned eateries, cafés and pubs within a few miles of most homes. However, residents often travel to nearby hubs for standard grocers and retailers. “Greenville doesn’t have a lot of the amenities you might find in other communities,” Dieck says. “It’s grown so much in the last few decades that we haven’t had a chance to keep up. But within a few minutes, you can drive to these places or even bike.” Greenville Drive heads north into Hortonville, where Gilbert’s Sentry Foods neighbors small businesses and restaurants like Donaldson’s Gourmet & Gifts and the Black Otter Supper Club. Farther south, Grand Chute has Walmart Supercenter and Target, along with wholesalers like Sam’s Club and Costco.

Appleton International Airport has a large presence in Greenville

Appleton International Airport is a driving force for the local economy. Located in the southeast corner of Greenville, the airport is the headquarters of Air Wisconsin, one of the largest privately owned regional airlines in the U.S. Surrounding business parks house some of the village’s leading employers, including Plexus Corp. and the Oshkosh Corporation — each within a 5-mile radius of most homes. Commuters rely on Greenville Road, to reach Appleton, 7 miles southeast. The city is home to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, which services the greater Fox Cities.

Outagamie County’s crime statistics

While Greenville has its own fire and EMS station, the village is served by the greater Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, located in nearby Appleton. According to FBI data, the county’s violent crime rate has steadily decreased since 2020. The property crime rate spiked in 2022 before rapidly declining again in 2023.
