Where the cows came home
About 8 miles from Baltimore, the Lochearn neighborhood is defined by its historic, charming residences, numerous woodland parks and a sense of community pride. The community dates to the 1870s when it was the roaming grounds of Devonshire cattle. Since then, Lochearn has become a home to countless generations of content, neighborly and outdoorsy residents. "The biggest appeal about Lochearn is the convenience of its location," says Broker Donnell Spivey, owner of Exit Spivey Professional Realty, who has sold properties in Baltimore County for over 30 years. "But when you get off the highway, it's a close-knit community you find."

A touch of Olmsted influence
Lochearn is "a stable homeowner community with a host of well-kept single-family homes," says Spivey. Lochearn's curved, tree-shaded streets and open-air grids both contain rows of vernacular architecture in a midcentury design, such as ranch-styles, split-levels and bilevels with second-story overhangs sitting on green grass lots. To Lochearn's north is Sudbrook Park, a historic housing development of Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods designed in the late 1880s by Frederick Law Olmsted, inventor of the parkway and landscape architecture. Some parts of town have recently seen townhomes go up. Single-family homes and newer townhouses in Lochearn tend to sell for between $225,000 and $315,000, though some do go for higher prices.

Easy access to the Interstate 695 Beltway is available for trips to other parts of Baltimore County. And for frequent flyers, BWI Marshall Airport is roughly 17 miles south, accessible via highway.

IT's not the worse place in the world. If you want to get out and do better with your life it is possible. The school systems are not good but if a student does good they can succeed. It is a dangerous place and drugs exist but it is all in how you make it

I love living in this area. It is a quiet neighborhood with most of the residents being older in age. There are not enough recreational parks, such as basketball courts in the area. It can sometimes be boring. Crime rate is low. I would love to live here in the future.
