A rural community known for fly-fishing and country quiet
Beaver Creek is a small community in the farmland of Washington County, Maryland that is known for outdoor recreation, easy access to major highways and country quietude. “Folks love to fish that creek,” says Andy Lapkoff, broker and owner at RE/MAX Achievers, who has lived in the area for over 20 years. “It’s close to Frederick and Hagerstown, too, so it’s a good location for commuters.” It is mostly made up of family homesteads along Beaver Creek Road, although lately it has seen some subdivision developments that increase its attraction as a suburban perch south of Hagerstown. “Hagerstown is seeing lots of commercial development right now,” says Peach Lapkoff, owner of Olde Towne Title and Andy’s wife. “There’s a brand-new stadium and the brand-new Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine going in. There’s a lot happening in the area.” Despite this build-up, the neighborhood of Beaver Creek remains a comfortable rural stretch of land in the south of the county, where residents make early morning walks across the dew-glazed fields to cast lines into the eponymous creek.
Nothing beats a day fishing on the creek in Devil's Backbone County Park.

The amenities of the Beaver Creek Country Club
One of the most popular draws to Beaver Creek is the body of water that flows through it. “Beaver Creek is a well-known fly-fishing spot,” Andy says. “And it’s within a mile walking distance of most homes, so folks do like that.” Another amenity residents will enjoy is the Beaver Creek Country Club, located on the east side of the neighborhood. “The country club has a great golf course and a swimming pool,” Andy says. “You can also just get a pool membership, if that’s more what you’re interested in.” The club has been a well-regarded staple of the community since its establishment in 1959. “The owners are very accommodating and kind people,” Peach adds. “I host my Christmas parties in their event space.” For hikers, the Thurston Griggs Trail just over 3 miles east is a good spot to pick up the larger Appalachian Trail. The renowned disc golf course at Ditto Farms Regional Park is about 5 miles north, while those looking for a more casual outing will likely want to visit the lakeshore at Greenbrier State Park.

Farmhouses and sparse midcentury development
Along Beaver Creek Road, prospective buyers will find Colonial farmhouses, some of which were constructed as early as 1765. These sit on spacious green lawns, often set back from the road by gravel driveways. When they do come up for sale, these can price between $335,000 and $655,000 depending on the condition of the property and the size of the lot. Midcentury ranch-style homes and Cape Cods are also available, costing between $210,000 and $620,000 based on acreage and build year. Modern Traditional with Colonial features, with prices beginning around $600,000 and rising over $1 million, populate more recently developed subdivisions in the neighborhood. “There’s a mix of custom homes and older homes,” Andy says. “They sit well together. I just sold one that was a log cabin. It was dismantled in North Carolina and brought to the plot out there. At the same time, there are a few newer subdivisions with large homes around. There’s something for everyone in Beaver Creek.”
Colonial style farmhouses make up the majority of the market in Beaver Creek.

Weekend races at the Mason Dixon Dragway
On weekends from June to November, Beaver Creek residents will likely hear the sound of squealing tires rising from the Mason Dixon Dragway. This racetrack, just on the other side of Route 40, is among the oldest on the East Coast, having opened in 1961. Those who prefer dirt track stock car races can make the 16-mile drive west to the Hagerstown Speedway, the oldest racecourse in the state. The neighborhood is also just under 8 miles from downtown Hagerstown’s Meritus Park, home of the Flying Boxcars, the local minor league team. Folks also drive 22 miles east on Interstate 70 to Frederick for outdoor concerts at the Baker Park Bandshell.
