Well-connected residential community in Northeast Pennsylvania

In 1765, Thomas Lingle bought a parcel of land in central Pennsylvania with plans to develop it into a small settlement for newly arriving Europeans. Today, Lingle’s town – or Linglestown, as it is currently known – is a well-connected residential community on the doorstep of Harrisburg. “Linglestown is a family-oriented and quiet community with a nice little downtown area,” says local Realtor Terri Rigano of Howard Hanna Real Estate. “It’s not that large, but it has character. There are coffee shops in Victorian buildings and a few clothing stores and restaurants in older buildings.” Rigano says its small-town feel, along with its proximity to Hershey and Harrisburg, is a main draw for residents.

Shoppers stop into Moda Italiana Boutique for the latest fashions or pick out new reads at Heart & Soul Books down the street. Residents can start their day with a fresh cup of coffee at St. Thomas Roasters or enjoy brunch on the terrace of Mellow Minded Café two doors down. The laid-back café offers a health-conscious menu of sandwiches, wraps and other entrees. Other townie favorites include the pies at Linglestown Village Pizza & Subs and the Mediterranean dishes of Greystone Public House. Just south of Linglestown, the Paxton Towne Center in Paxtonia brims with convenient big-box retailers, casual chain restaurants and supermarkets. Familiar names include Kohl’s, The Home Depot and At Home. Costco and GIANT provide fresh produce and pantry necessities for grocery runs.
