An independent locality
Susquehanna Township is an independent locality, separated from Pennsylvania’s capital city of Harrisburg, just 5-miles west. In the shadow of Blue Mountain, the neighborhood is expanding up its slope, replacing old farmland with modern residential developments. Locals will probably recognize Susquehanna Township from the Rockville Bridge’s stone arches. The longest railroad viaduct of its kind, locals can still catch a glimpse of the scenic train as it passes over the Susquehanna River. With scenic parks and roadways, as well as close proximity to the state’s capital, this is a great place for people who want space to breathe when they clock out.

Parks that educate
Christian McNaughton Memorial Park sits amid a residential community and is walkable from many homes. Children can run around on the playground or grassy field while their parents watch from a bench. Nestled along U.S. Route 22 is Wildwood Park, which spans 22-acres of wooded wetlands. Folks can admire the reeds and cattails at the 90-acre shallow lake, wander a wooded boardwalk or walking trail or visit the Benjamin Olewine III Nature Center, which has kid-friendly wildlife exhibits. History lovers enjoy Susquehanna Township’s Fort Hunter Mansion and Park, which features a Federal-style stone dwelling that overlooks the Susquehanna River. Locals can book tours and learn about how the site evolved from a British encampment during the French and Indian War into a public recreation space where people come to hike or launch non-motorized boats onto the river. For indoor recreation during Pennsylvania’s cold winters, locals can head to Regal Harrisburg on Caughey Drive.

Diverse dining and weekend shopping
The Shoppes at Susquehanna are an excellent place for weekend shopping, with various retailers from LOFT to Eddie Bauer to Sephora. Or, for groceries and everyday needs, locals can head to their GIANT supermarket on Linglestown Road, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare. Khadka says locals will notice the area’s diversity in the various ethnic restaurants and businesses along Linglestowns Road, which is lined with grocery stores, shopping centers, offices and more. “It’s becoming a very diverse community,” Khadka says. “You can find people of all different ethnic backgrounds here.” For example, at Royal Chef’s Kitchen and Banquet, locals can dine on traditional Indian and Nepalese dishes served on white tablecloths. U.S. Route 22 counters the banks of the Susquehanna River, with restaurants overlooking the water. Boro Bar and Grill Riverview is a favorite spot to catch the game, with finger food and a wide selection of beer. Nearby, Glass Lounge and Restaurant, a casual spot whose exterior mimics a barn, is one of the area’s favorite steakhouses.
