A quiet, but active lakeside community
Lake Coeur d'Alene is one of the largest lakes in Idaho, with several bays and coves throughout its shore that offer a private lakefront lifestyle. For real peace and quiet on the water, Rockford Bay tops all the neighborhoods in this area. "It is the only no-wake bay on Lake Coeur d'Alene. It has a restaurant and a little general store. It's probably one of the most desirable bays on Lake Coeur d'Alene," says Julie Kuhlmann, a broker with Coldwell Banker Tomlinson who has sold multiple homes in the neighborhood. The restriction on wake throughout the bay makes the area suitable for activities other than motorboating, such as kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding. Located about 18 miles from Downtown Coeur d'Alene, Rockford Bay is conveniently located near U.S. Route 95, making it relatively easy to get to throughout the year compared to more rural lakeside communities.
Lake Coeur d'Alene, is one of the most popular lakes in northern Idaho.
With direct access to Lake Coeur d'Alene, residents can enjoy boating, kayaking, and fishing.

The neighborhood's proximity to the lake makes water activities like fishing, motorboating, or paddling possible. Most lakefront houses have private docks or boat slips where homeowners can store their boats, but there is also a marina nearby for those without water access. The Golf Club at Black Rock is a private par-72 course that has earned recognition from Golf Digest, being named one of the publication's Top 100 courses each year since it opened in 2003. The 18-hole course has a mix of features, including woodlands, open fairways and towering waterfalls. The club also has a swimming pool and tennis courts. Hiking trails nearby include Mica Peak across the state line in Washington. There are several trails to reach this nearly mile-high peak, but the closest is a 9-mile trail about 13 miles from the neighborhood.

Mountain Craftsman homes on the edge of Lake Coeur d'Alene
Houses in Rockford Bay include styles that are common in the Pacific Northwest. "They're very North Idaho homes," says Desiree Jones, a Realtor with eXp Realty who has sold homes in the neighborhood. "There are architectural guidelines, so they do have to have some typical features. The existing homes all have stone fireplaces and wood floors." Most houses are in the mountain Craftsman style, but they can range from two-bedroom, 1,700-square-foot cabins to five-bedroom, 4,000-square-foot mansions. Unlike some other golf course communities, homeowners at The Golf Club at Black Rock are not required to purchase memberships. There is a homeowners association, though, and fees range from $200 to $500 per month. Homes on the golf course typically cost between $1.5 million and $3 million. Homes off the course cost between $800,000 and $2 million.
On the outskirts of the Bay, you can find larger lots and rural properties with more privacy.
