Harrison is a suburban town surrounded by the Chickamauga Reservoir and is close to downtown Chattanooga. The area experienced periods of turmoil throughout the 1800s. The Cherokee Native American tribe that called this area home was forcibly removed during The Trail of Tears. During the Civil War, the settled town experienced major destruction and had its county seat moved to the nearby city of Chattanooga. After the Civil War, Harrison was mostly known for its farmlands. Around the mid-20th century, the Chickamauga Dam project was started with the goal of flood control and increasing economic development. In 1940, the dam was completed, forcing the town of Harrison and State Highway 58 to be relocated. Today, Harrison sits along the reservoir’s shoreline and primarily features single-family homes, lush greenery and popular outdoor attractions. “There’s lots of recreation on the water,” says Heidi Rau, a Realtor with RE/MAX Ambassadors, who lives nearby and has been selling homes here for over five years. “It’s a big boating community.”
