Boat Town USA
Harrison Township is a quiet, diverse lakefront community with scenic views and friendly neighbors. “Of course, everybody thinks their community is unique, but one of the big things is that we are a waterfront community,” says Township Supervisor and lifelong resident Ken Verkest. “We have the Clinton River, the spillway and L’Anse Creuse Bay, so a big portion of the township is an island. We're also home to the Selfridge Air Guard Base, which is something we're really proud of.”

Saint Clair Metro Park and 10 marinas
“Saint Clair Metro Park is a main attraction,” says Verkest. “There’s a beautiful view of the lake. There’s also a beach, nature trails and two large marshes.” On warm summer days, people head to the park to enjoy picnics and cool off at the beach.
With 10 marinas around the township, residents don’t even need to go to the metro park to enjoy the water. “We have many marinas,” says Verkest. “People who may not live here come here regularly during the summer. Folks who like being out on their boats head here to spend weekends on the water.”

Selfridge Air National Guard Base
Harrison Township is also proud to be home to the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, one of the oldest continuously operating military airfields in the nation. The base takes up almost half of the township’s land and is located on its north side. It is the only US installation that houses Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection personnel. Along with the Selfridge Military Air Museum, which is open to the public, the base hosts an annual Air Show and STEAM EXPO every summer.

There are mobile home parks on the northeast side of I-94, while ranches and mid-sized new traditional homes line the roads south of the Air Guard base. Off the coast of L’Anse Creuse Bay, larger ranches and colonial revivals offer scenic views and waterfront access. Prices range from $50,000 for a manufactured home to upwards of $2 million for a new traditional waterfront property. Ranches and mid-sized new traditional homes generally range between $150,000 for a 2 bed ranch that needs some love, to upwards of $790,000 for a four-bed new build.

Riverside dining and nearby shopping
Several restaurants tempt the palate in Harrison Township, including MacRay Harbor and the Beach Grill. Bumpers Landing Waterfront Sport & Grill is a neighborhood favorite because it offers a front seat to the action, serving up tasty food with waterfront views. For grocery needs, residents can head over to the Kroger on Crocker Boulevard or visit nearby townships and cities to shop.
For everyday essentials, they head to nearby cities like Clinton Township, which offers a Walmart and The Mall at Partridge Creek. And Sterling Heights features several shopping centers, including Lakeside Mall, while Mount Clemons offers a walkable downtown district. “We don’t have an established downtown, but we’re fortunate to be right next to Mount Clemons, which is very bikeable and walkable. You can always visit our neighbors for the downtown experience,” says Verkest.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Small town near the lake. Quiet and decently safe. Lots of older folks. Has high end homes, condos, apartments.

Employment in this area varies because it is a boat town. In the summer there are many job opportunities, but in the winter many places shut down and employment drops. Most people here work in a field related to boats, like mechanics or working at a marina.

Harrison Twp. is a boat town, there are several restaurants that mainly all feature a boat theme. The food at theses places are fairly good. In the winter the town is not very busy. There are many marinas located here. There is really only one grocery store, Kroger, which usually has everything you need. There are very few retail shops here. You must travel to another town to go shopping.

The food and drink in this area is fantastic in the summer. There are unique places to go to, all with some sort of boat charm. There are many happy hours with great themed drinks. Many restaurants are located on the river with boat docks. Burgers are a favorite dish here.
