Hillside residential enclave near Downtown Hayward
Less than two miles from downtown Hayward, the Mission-Foothill neighborhood blends a hilly, quieter residential landscape with modern conveniences. “It’s really nicely located because the neighborhood is situated in the Hayward Hills, which has some of the most beautiful views in the area,” says Leslie Foster, a local realtor with EXP Realty. With its nature-infused hillside setting, it's common for residents to catch glimpses of deer or other native wildlife roaming around the neighborhood’s tree-lined streetscapes. Properties in Mission-Foothills are known for being spacious and often feature Accessory Dwelling Units. These provide extra investment opportunities for homeowners to rent out spaces to nearby college kids or other young working professionals. “It’s kind of a college town, too, since it’s next to Cal State East Bay, so if you are a student, this is a great place to maybe find a more affordable housing option in a nice area.” With its scenic landscape, spacious homes and closeness to numerous hiking trails and downtown attractions, Mission-Foothill provides a natural residential oasis with the benefits of urban proximity.

Split-level homes and contemporary condos
The neighborhood’s softly winding, hilly streetscapes are surrounded by an abundance of trees, from palms to coast oaks and grand eucalyptuses. The curving residential streets feature narrowly paved sidewalks and are lined with various housing styles. Because of Mission-Foothills’ hillside makeup, the most common architecture includes split-level homes, often supported by stilts. Other typical housing styles are mid-century ranchers and craftsman bungalows mixed in with some Tudor and Spanish designs. Mission-Foothill also features a few groupings of newer, more contemporary-style condominiums. These condos are designed to look like townhouses with multiple-level layouts and include condominium amenities such as a community playground, outdoor BBQ pits and weekly landscaping throughout the condominium grounds. Single-family housing prices start around $680,000 for smaller, less-updated homes and can go up to $1.5 million for larger properties with unobstructed hillside views. Condos typically range from $550,000 for one bedroom and up to $950,000 for three- to four-bedroom condos residing on two- to three levels.
