A mountain town outside Helena
Clancy is a small rural town about 10 miles from Helena where everybody knows everybody. “I started walking to the center of town [from my house] and it took me a half hour to walk there because I know everybody and kept running into people,” says Laurie Koutnik a Broker/owner with Capital City Realty and Clancy resident. Surrounded by mountain ranges and peaks, nature is a neighbor in Clancy too, and hiking, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors are mainstays for residents. “Sometimes it's very relaxing to see the beauty of the mountains and do nothing,” says Koutnik.
Clancy is nestled into pine covered mountains just outside of Helena Montana.

Nature is Clancy's backyard
Clancy is closest to nature, and that’s a big draw for people in town. “People who want to have more of a mountain lifestyle live out here,” says Koutnik. Clancy residents can walk up into the Mount Helena or Elkhorn Mountain ranges, or hop on the Interstate and go to nearby parks, lakes and nature preserves. Park Lake is accessible via local roads, and popular for fishing, hunting and boating. People will drive several hours to visit their favorite outdoor spots, sometimes taking a week off work to hunt, camp and fish at the Bob Marshall Wilderness, about 200 miles away. “The guys will camp out and take their horses along to ride into the wilderness and go hunting,” says Koutnik. The Missouri River, about 25 miles away, is also popular for hiking, hunting and fishing.

Mountain subdivisions
Even though most homes are located in Clancy's town center off Interstate 15, nature is still all around. “We had a moose walk down all the way the mountain and go to the creek,” says Koutnik. “And he was pretty comfortable with people and dogs.” Properties in Clancy tend to sell for between $500,000 and $1 million, and most plots are on at least an acre of land. Some multi-acre properties that are a few miles away from the town center go for $2.5 through 5 million. Houses are a mix of older ranch homes and bungalows, newer colonial-style, contemporary ranch homes, and multi-million dollar mansions in the hills.

Getting around Clancy
Interstate 15 runs right through the center of town, so hopping on the road and going to Helena, Yellowstone or the Bob Marshall Wilderness area is simple. “Driving isn’t a big deal here,” says Koutnik. “We grow up doing it." The nearest airport is Helena Regional Airport, and St. Peter’s Health is the nearest hospital. Both are about 15 miles away.
