Whitney sees the Vegas lights and scenic mountains
Away from the hustle and bustle of the Vegas Strip lies the Whitney neighborhood. Residents enjoy their little oasis with lush nature and mountain views to the east and downtown fun to the west. “People move to Whitney for the nearby schools, proximity to the Strip and access to hiking trails in the wetlands,” says Amy Groves, Broker at Nevada’s Finest Properties. “It’s a respectful area.” The neighborhood rests 8 miles from Downtown Las Vegas and 10 miles from the Vegas Strip. A large recreation center, multiple schools and nearby shopping keep residents active.

Spanish-style homes, condos and townhouses
Renters and future homeowners can find townhouses, condos, apartments and single-family homes in gated communities in Whitney. “Renters far outpace homeowners in this neighborhood. Some are renting while waiting for the interest rates to improve,” Groves says. New homes are popping up in master-plan communities like Luna Vista, but construction is slowing down with the limited space. Single-family home prices can range from $300,000 to $500,000. These homes feature yards covered in rocks or pebbles instead of grass, a common theme with Nevada homes. Despite the lack of green grass, palm trees or tall bushes often sit in the front yards to bring a pop of color to the neutral stones.

Outdoor fun is endless at Clark County Wetlands Park
Whitney Recreation Center offers a variety of indoor and outdoor amenities. Locals visit to play on the sport courts, get their steps in on the walking trails or hang out on the playground equipment. Those who prefer air conditioning when getting active stay in the gym or use the climbing wall. Parents can sign their kids up for a day camp or dance class, and many programs serve adults and seniors as well.
The Clark County Wetlands Park features tall trees, babbling streams, cottonwood groves, mesquite bosques and more. It can be explored on paved and unpaved trails, either on foot or during a safari court tour. "There’s a bird sanctuary and hiking trails over there,” Groves says. “It’s not as crowded as other parks, but there’s plenty to see.” It’s an oasis right in Whitney’s backyard.
