Henryetta, Oklahoma, is known for many things. To some, it’s the rodeo cowboy capital of the world. To others, it’s an important crossroads in the United States’ mid-south. Sports fans may recognize it as the hometown of NFL legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. While Henryetta’s most defining attribute is up for discussion, its residential appeal is readily apparent. In addition to a rich history, rural charm, and strong community spirit, Henryetta offers easy access to metropolitan hubs like Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Dallas, Texas.

Oil boom home architecture

Cottages, bungalows, and ranch-style homes comprise a significant portion of the housing stock in Henryetta. Historic homes from the oil boom era can also be found, often with a price tag under $200,000. For the most part, residential lots are large, affording plenty of space between neighbors. The price for a four-bed, one-bath colonial house with a covered front porch is $125,000. A 3,3000-square-foot contemporary brick home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an attached two-car garage costs $335,000.

Public schools, Aikman's alma mater

The Henryetta Public Schools division serves the area. Henryetta Elementary School has a C-plus overall grade on Niche, and just 5% of its teachers are in their first or second year of teaching. Niche gives Henryetta Middle School a C-plus overall grade and an A for racial, economic, and cultural diversity. Henryetta High School, the alma mater of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, follows suit with a C-plus Niche grade.

Nichols Park and other green spaces

Henryetta's parks offer the perfect blend of play and relaxation. The largest among them is Nichols Park, sprawling over 300 acres with numerous hiking trails weaving through vast wooded areas. It also offers a swimming beach and disc golf course. It is also home to the Living Legends Rodeo Arena and the Henryetta Little League Complex. Spanning over 8,000 acres of diverse ecosystems and providing sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife, Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for nature enthusiasts. Henryetta Golf and Country Club is a nine-hole layout featuring water hazards on over half of the holes.

A traditional hometown shopping experience

Henryetta offers a traditional hometown shopping experience with family-owned businesses, some spanning three and four generations. During the summer and into fall, the farmers market stall just off Lake Road is popular among residents wanting homegrown vegetables and other goodies. Rustler’s BBQ serves quintessential Oklahoma cuisine – tender meats straight from the grill or smoker with plenty of home-cooked sides. Groceries, prescriptions, and everyday essentials can be purchased at the Walmart on Main Street.

Rodeos and Highway to Henryetta

Troy Aikman’s “Highway to Henryetta” music festival is a day-long event held at Nichols Park, with proceeds benefitting educational and community initiatives in the city. The city hosts annual Labor Day, Halloween, and Christmas events, along with the Professional Rodeo Association-sanctioned Living Legends Rodeo at the Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo Arena in Nichols Park.

KATS and Tulsa International

KI BOIS Area Transit System (KATS) is a rural public transportation system with over 200 buses and vans that take residents to recreational centers, medical appointments, grocery stores, and work. Tulsa International Airport is approximately 50 miles north.
