Following a channel inland, Hewlett Bay Park has a peaceful, friendly atmosphere. “The community to me is just really, really special,” says Sara Abikzer, a licensed real estate salesperson at Signature Premier Properties who has been living in the area surrounding the Hewlett villages for 27 years. “I just feel so close to people when I’m walking around, when I’m in the streets, any store that I walk into. It’s actually a very tight-knit community. You will know everyone when you live here.” In addition to the sense of belonging in the village, Hewlett Bay Park residents benefit from a mix of waterfront access and convenience to Hewlett. The neighboring hamlet is so close to Hewlett Bay Park that many residents can walk the handful of blocks from their homes to the shops and restaurants stretching along Broadway. “Everything’s kind of local and you can walk places, which is really nice,” Abikzer says.
The approximately 147 homes and mansions in Hewlett Bay Park are large, luxurious and set back on sprawling parcels of landscaped and well-maintained land. Lot sizes often reach an acre and generally cap out at around 2 acres. Since the village’s eastern border follows along the Macy Channel, waterfront homes are abundant. Many residents’ backyards have swimming pools, and the homes without them almost always have enough space for new homeowners to add them if they’d like. “People want to move here from other areas and buy big properties where they can put pools and have outdoor living with huge lots and privacy,” Abikzer says. According to Ronnie Gerber, a licensed real estate salesperson at Douglas Elliman Real Estate, home prices in the village get a running start at over $1 million and climb as high as $5 million. Abikzer and Gerber agree that even with these higher home prices, the market in Hewlett Bay Park is competitive. There is a lot of demand for homes in the village, but there isn’t much inventory to go around. This has created a strong seller’s market, and homes sell quickly when they’re priced well. “It’s really important to be prepared as a buyer, which means to be either pre-approved, have proof of funds, have a great Realtor that you’re working with that can help you through the process to get the job done seamlessly,” Abikzer says. Once you’ve secured a home in the neighborhood, though, its value is likely to only grow as time passes, especially if you maintain it well. “The homes have only been going up in value in the past few years and I definitely see them continuing that way,” Abikzer says.
Children in Hewlett Bay Park are served by the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, which Niche rates among the top 10 districts in the state. Every school in the district has an A-plus rating on Niche. Children start their education at Franklin Early Childhood Center, but once they reach second grade, they move to a school like Hewlett Elementary School. When they reach sixth grade, they begin attending Woodmere Middle School, which is a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, before shifting to George W. Hewlett High School, where they can participate in its strong athletics program or clubs like robotics, yearbook and model congress.
A lot of free time in Hewlett Bay Park is spent out on the water, with favorite pastimes including boating, kayaking and fishing. When residents want to shop or eat out, they walk or drive the short distance to Broadway in Hewlett. They often grab groceries at Trader Joe’s, enjoy sushi at Xaga Sushi and Asian Fusion or treat themselves to an upscale dinner at Remy’s Italian Restaurant. Hewlett Bay Park is also convenient to areas beyond Hewlett. Popular beaches like Atlantic Beach are just over 5 miles away, and Hewlett Station, less than a mile from the center of the village, takes residents to New York City in about 45 minutes. Hewlett Bay Park’s location makes life convenient and ensures residents are never far from a fun day out, but its small size and friendly, peaceful atmosphere help them feel truly at home.
