Jutting out into Hewlett Bay with channels running inland along each side, plenty of Hewlett Harbor’s spacious homes have waterfront views and access. Despite Hewlett Harbor’s relatively small population, numbering just over 1,200 as of 2010, a number of influential and successful people have lived in the village, including the beloved Marvel comic creator Stan Lee.

People are drawn to Hewlett Harbor for its beauty, connection to the water and quiet peacefulness, and it has long been known for the size of its homes and its sense of luxury. “It’s a gorgeous neighborhood,” says Ronnie Gerber, a licensed real estate salesperson at Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “It’s very luxurious living. The properties are very large, the houses are very large.” According to Gerber, most of Hewlett Harbor’s homes are located on between a half-acre and an acre of land, though you can find homes on even bigger parcels. Buying one of these luxurious homes comes at a high price, as Gerber says that homes start at around $1 million and climb to over $5 million. These prices have done nothing to slow demand for homes in the village. Potential homebuyers may be surprised by the amount of competition they’re likely to face when trying to secure their dream home. “There’s not a lot of inventory, so when a house comes on the market, it goes really quickly,” Gerber says. As a result, when potential homebuyers find a home they truly love, they should be prepared to face some competition.

For people with children, another major draw to the neighborhood is its school districts. Most children in the village are served by the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, which Niche lists among the top ten school districts in New York and in the top five districts to teach in the state. The district and every single school in it all have A-plus ratings on Niche. These students attend Franklin Early Childhood Center through first grade. They then enter a school like Hewlett Elementary School before moving to Woodmere Middle School, a National School of Excellence where students venture out to the greenhouse to learn about concepts like hydroponics and aquaponics. At George W. Hewlett High School, students can participate in extracurricular activities like mock trial, robotics and literary clubs. A small portion of children in the neighborhood are instead served by the Lynbrook Union Free School District, which also has an A-plus rating on Niche.

The water is a big part of life in Hewlett Harbor, with boating, fishing and other water-based activities among many residents’ favorite pastimes, especially during the warm months. When they aren’t at work or on the water, residents are often teeing up on the golf course at The Seawane Club, a long-standing private club located on 130 acres near the waterfront. Members of the club have access to its 18-hole golf course, tennis and basketball courts, swimming pool and restaurant. When they want to shop or go out to eat, residents drive a few miles to their favorite spots in nearby Hewlett or East Rockaway. A day at the beach is also within easy reach, as Long Beach and Atlantic Beach are both under 7 miles away. Many residents commute to work in Manhattan, leaving Hewlett Station less than 2 miles away to reach the city in about 45 minutes. After a long day of work or fun, Hewlett Harbor provides a life of quiet luxury, ensuring that residents know they can always return to relax and unwind in their peaceful homes.
