Cedar River setting northeast of Maple Valley
Dorre Don is on the Cedar River in Hobart, a community south of Issaquah. It's a rural area northeast of Maple Valley, a city of about 28,000 people. "The area is sought after for a few reasons. One is because it has amazing mountain views," says Dawn Rushton, real estate broker with Dawn Rushton Real Estate Group. She's a long-time area resident and has been a broker since 1984. Another plus of living in Hobart is convenient access to highways with state Routes 18 and 169 to the west.
Rushton describes a rural setting where they hear people shooting guns in the woods and, the next moment, see a neighbor flying their helicopter home from the city. "It's a mixed bag. You either have somebody living in a van down by the river or in a mansion."
Dorre Don homes are often surrounded by densely wooded land.

The Dorre Don Natural Area, the Cedar River Trail
Within Dorre Don, there are some small residential area parks like Patrick's Faire Park and Belmont Woods Park. The Dorre Don Natural Area includes land on both sides of the Cedar River. King County manages the 70-acre area. The river is ecologically important as a pathway for various species of native salmon. The Cedar River Trail, more than 17 miles in its entirety, passes by Dorre Don on its stretch from Landsburg to Lake Washington in Renton. A section here was built on a former rail line. Railroad trestle bridges pass over Upper and Lower Dorre Don Way. Wilderness trailheads in northern Hobart include Tiger Mountain Trailhead and Taylor Mountain Forest Trailhead.
This scenic bridge over the Cedar River is a common place for Dorre Don Locals to get some sun.

Riverfront and hillside homes in Dorre Don
Following the river's bends is Dorre Don Way Southeast, which has a section called Upper Dorre Don Way Southeast. The two-lane road has forested, hilly and curving sections, much of it with guardrails. Lots are large and spaced out, and many homes are set back, with a long driveway leading off the road. Lower Dorre Don Way is a single-lane road and even closer to the river, with some homes perched just steps away from the water. "If someone says they live on the river and says 'Dorre Don,' you know they live down in that gulley," Rushton says.
Dorre Don has some housing variety, though inventory on the market is limited. There are 1950s to 1980s ramblers of 1,200 to 2,300 square feet, which have sold for $750,000 to $925,000 in recent years. Custom homes of 2,800 to 4,700 square feet date to the 1980s through the 2010s. Prices range from $1.2 to $1.8 million.
