Residents come first in Holland
Holland, known as Springfield Township, is a suburb of Toledo where residents’ needs come first. “We have multiple different, affordable residential housing areas, our school district is one of the finest and our cost of living is relatively affordable,” says Michael Hampton, the township administrator and longtime resident of Springfield Township. The township can count on public services for snow and ice control, road maintenance, leaf pickup and other pertinent community needs. Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport flies to Arizona and Florida for out-of-state travel. Springfield Township is meticulously planned on a grid system, with houses lining every sidewalk and lane. The suburban township has several well-maintained parks, meeting places, play structures, sports fields and community events.

Bus stops and I-475
Springfield Township is bisected by Airport Highway and bordered by I-475. While most residents rely on their vehicles to get around, the township has access to public modes of transportation. The Toledo bus system has extended services into Springfield Township with new route 33. Through the public transportation system, residents can call a ride for an affordable rate with TARTA Flex. However, walking and biking are still options to get around. “We are continually improving our pedestrian and bicycle paths, so there’s always an opportunity for folks that want to walk or bike,” says Hampton. “We’re trying to make it more accessible for them to do so.”
Strawberry Festival
To celebrate the area’s strawberry harvest, the residents of Springfield Township throw an annual Strawberry Festival in the summer. The festival spans three days and has a turnout of around 15,000 to 20,000 people each year. Fresh strawberry pies, milkshakes and other treats are sold. The event culminates in a parade and a bake-off, where the top three winners will receive a prize.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
