Quaint houses minutes from Downtown Hollywood
Highland Gardens is a neighborhood on the fringes of Hollywood’s growing downtown. The community is just south of the city’s signature strip, Hollywood Boulevard, lined by a collection of local and chain businesses. “Hollywood is growing fast, but it’s not like the rush of downtown Miami,” says Lonna Spitaleri, the broker and owner of Costa Bella Realty Group. “It’s got a hometown feel.”
Locally owned stores, restaurants, doctor’s offices, and more border Highland Gardens, but the neighborhood is predominantly residential. Its sidewalk-lined streets feature densely set houses with fenced-in backyards shaded by mature palm trees and live oaks. Aside from the occasional train or car horn, Highland Gardens residents enjoy a quiet community less than 5 miles from Hollywood’s oceanfront and the city’s centerpiece, ArtsPark at Young Circle.

Rose’s Garden at home, ArtsPark at Young Circle down the street
This neighborhood is down the boulevard from downtown’s lush, beating heart, ArtsPark at Young Circle. The 10-acre interactive green space is a hub for relaxation, recreation and entertainment. “They’re always having different festivals,” Spitaleri says. “There’s a wine and food festival, a German festival, music festivals – all that stuff.” Concerts and art demonstrations are held weekly at the ArtsPark Amphitheatre and Visual Arts Pavilion. Locals can attend jewelry-making and glass-blowing workshops at the park’s studios. There are also traditional park amenities, including a playground and a dog run. Closer to home, Rose’s Garden is a pocket park with a playground on the corner of Monroe Street and 24th Avenue. The park is named after a neighborly activist, Rose Shomer, who, after living in her Highland Gardens home for 65 years, sold it to the city so that a park could be built in its stead.
