Former orchard with midcentury character
Located outside East Downtown, the Pecan Park neighborhood is a historic residential community next to Houston’s industrial hubs. Originally a pecan orchard, Pecan Park was divided into housing lots beginning in 1926. Many of the original pre-World War II homes still line the community’s streets. With its proximity to the local rail yards and Port Houston, Pecan Park has been a favorite location for workers in and around the port. Due to the neighborhood’s location along the bayou, Pecan Park residents can avoid the air pollution and flooding risks that impact other areas around the port. The residential community neighbors the lively East Downtown, known locally as EaDo, with attractions like the George R. Brown Convention Center, PNC Stadium and Minute Maid Park. But despite its location inside the Loop of Interstate 45 and 610, Pecan Park has managed to stay a capsule of peace within the metro. “It’s maintained its residential character. When I got out here, I was really charmed by the area and the houses. It really hasn’t changed since I’ve been here,” says Dan Axton, a member of the Pecan Park civic association who has lived in the area for over 20 years.

Pecan Park locals live in original 1940s homes
Most Pecan Park houses were built in the 1940s and 1950s and run between 1,000 square feet and 2,000 square feet. Buyers will find architecture common in early 20th-century houses, including brick- and wood-sided bungalows, brightly painted ranch-style homes, and Cape Cod properties. “It’s still somewhat resembling a 1940s movie set because the houses are typical wood frame, one-story houses from that era,” Axton says. The neighborhood’s streets are lined with sidewalks, fenced-in yards, and planted shrubs and gardens. Residents may also find a few nearly century-old pecan trees throughout the area. A simple range home can start around $100,000 while a renovated bungalow or brick-lined Cape Cod can reach up to $400,000.

Mason Park, one of East Houston’s biggest green spaces
The land for Ingrando Park was set aside in the 1930s and 1940s as the community was developed and remains at the center of the neighborhood along Keller Street, where residents can enjoy the park's softball field and walking trail. There is a bunch of fast food restaurants around, but the ones that attract me the most are the little buses that sell Mexican food. Gorditas, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, sopes, tacos and a bunch of other Mexican food is the best.

My parents don't let me work because i have to focus in school first, but the one who i see struggling alot is my dad. He usually goes around looking for a better job because jobs now a days are really difficult to find and because they don't pay good.
