Recreation Farms is open to various land uses
In Recreation Farms, it’s as easy to find a gated rambler home as it is to find a commercial lot or a diesel engine repair shop. This diversity of development makes it an appealing area for many. “That area is popular because of the lots,” says Candelaria Hernandez, a Houston local and Realtor with Brooks & Davis Real Estate. “There are no deed restrictions, so the lots are larger; that’s why there’s so much commercial development and residential development.” In addition, Recreation Farms is minutes away from retail strips along Houston’s outer rim and within a half hour of downtown Houston employers.
Buyers seek houses, undeveloped lots and commercial properties
Mobile and ranch-style homes line the narrow, tree-dotted streets in the north half of the community, while the south half is full of unrestricted lots and commercial and industrial properties. Hernandez says most of the lots are big, starting around 10,000 square feet but measuring up to an acre. “Buyers who are traditional homeowners like the land because it's unrestricted; they can try hobby farming with the extra space.” The area offers many opportunities, whether buyers are seeking homes, undeveloped parcels or a landing spot for a small business. Homes don’t hit the market often, but the median price is about $275,000.
Restaurants and groceries along Tomball Parkway, other roadways
North Houston Rosslyn Road, the western border of Recreation Farms, hosts a variety of casual eateries, from Marco Taqueria to Antojitos Mexican Restaurant. To the northeast, there’s the commercial-heavy Tomball Parkway, with a Kroger, Aldi, Walmart and several fast-casual Texas chains.
Klein ISD schools offer career prep coursework
Klein Independent School District serves Recreation Farms for education. Students can attend Eiland Elementary, which receives a B rating on Niche, followed by Klein Intermediate and Klein Forest High School. Both receive B-minus ratings. Klein Forest High is known for its Career and Technical Education curriculum in fields such as cybersecurity, auto tech and EMT training. The high school also won the 6A state track and field team championship in 2023.
Racing go-karts and playing at Alabonson Park
For family-friendly fun, there’s the Go-Kart Raceway along West Mount Houston Road, featuring a half-mile track, a laser tag arena and a two-floor arcade. South of Recreation Farms is Alabonson Park, with baseball and softball fields, a playground and access to the White Oak Bayou Greenway, a 17-mile paved pathway running through Houston.
Connected to I-45 and Houston bus system
Houston Metro buses stop along Montgomery Road and Antoine Drive for regional public transit options. East of Recreation Farms, commuters can take Interstate 45 about 10 miles south to the center of Houston, taking between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Locals can also catch domestic and international flights from George Bush Intercontinental Airport, a 13-mile drive east.
Nearby houses of worship include temples and churches
Recreation Farms is home to several houses of worship. There’s Wat Buddhavas of Houston, a Buddhist temple that hosts the annual Songkran Festival, a celebration of the Thai New Year. Iglesia Bautista Libertad is a Baptist church along Breen Drive, a block from the Gurudwara Sahib of Houston, a Sikh temple.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
