A neighborhood with a historic flair
Located West of downtown Houston, Sixth Ward is one of the city's historic districts and is home to the oldest neighborhood in Houston, known as Old Sixth Ward. The town has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. As of 2007, the ward was listed as a Protected Historic District, with ongoing preservation efforts. Residents of Sixth Ward enjoy the elements of the past that still remain, as well as its new amenities, such as parks and restaurants. "It's such a cool area –-- I've hung out there quite a bit! It has historic architecture, great views of the city, and lots of walking, biking and hiking trails," says Ethan Mock, a lifelong Houston resident.

From bungalows to Victorian-style homes
Homes were primarily built during the 1870s and 1900s, resulting in architectural styles such as bungalows and Victorian-style homes. Many of the Victorian-style homes were a result of properties being restored in an effort to protect Sixth Ward's history. Prices range from $400,000 to $ 785,000. Most residents rent, making up about 60 percent of the population, while the remaining 40 percent are homeowners.
