Centrally located in Houston’s southwest corner, the neighborhood of Westwood offers valuable access to some of the city’s main thoroughfares and hubs, from Houston’s sprawling suburbs to the city’s International District. Several car dealerships line the neighborhood’s Interstate 69 corridor, and retail and shopping centers offer multiple locally owned businesses to support, many of which reflect Westwood's multicultural population. As Westwood seeks to improve its quality of life, recent efforts have been made to make the neighborhood a more secure place to live, work and play. Many Houstonians continue to call the dense neighborhood home, thanks in part to its location at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and the Sam Houston Tollway, granting access to Greater Houston.

Bungalows with manicured lawns
Westwood’s housing options mostly consist of apartments, condos and one-story homes. Though Westwood has a fairly small geographic footprint, the neighborhood’s housing is quite dense. Traditional-style condos range from $75,000 to $150,000. Bungalows and traditional homes range from $200,000 to $350,000. A majority of single-family homes have manicured lawns but lack sidewalks, leading directly to the road. Most of the housing dates back to when Westwood was originally developed in the 1970s and early 1980s. Some remain close to their original condition, but many properties have been improved or restored. “Prices are increasing because homes are being modernized with new features like pools and patios,” Cabrera says.
