Surrounded by iconic sites in Willow Meadows-Willowbend
At a glance, Willow Meadows-Willowbend is made for people working at Houston's mammoth Texas Medical Center, just a few miles away. This world-famous institution, alongside NASA, has long been an anchor of Houston's economic growth and subsequent popularity. Willow Meadows-Willowbend is also just 2 miles from NRG Park, site of the Astrodome and sometimes wryly referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" by Houstonians for being the first air-conditioned stadium. NRG Park also has a massive convention center and is home to several events beyond Astros games, from rodeos to concerts. This neighborhood is perched just on the outer edge of the southwestern side of the Inner Loop, so convenience is vital for people living here. "I know it's an overused term, but it's accurate – I always hear residents say that it's a hidden gem," says Angela Ritchey, a long-time Houstonian with Coldwell Banker Realty who's been selling homes for nearly 20 years.

A way to settle near Brays Bayou
Large, spacious family homes for entry-level prices close to job opportunities have traditionally drawn people to Willow Meadows-Willowbend. The Willow Waterhole Bayou cuts north-south through the community. Simple mid to late-century ranch houses back up to the tributary, shaded on wide streets by old-growth willow oaks and magnolias. Tastefully renovated and quiet-seeming modern properties stand near Willow Park alongside stucco contemporary homes and cottages. Willow Meadows-Willowbend sits right on the southern border of Brays Bayou, so potential homeowners should know that while the bayou has over 15 miles of trails, it's also prone to flash floods. Older ranch homes sell between $350,000 and $380,000, while contemporary townhomes and large detached houses usually sell between $390,000 and $500,000.

The tune of community at MusicFEST
Every year in October, at the Schwartz Gazebo area of Willow Waterhole Greenway, MusicFEST sets up and draws in hundreds of people from surrounding neighborhoods. It invites regional musicians of all genres – jazz, R&B and blues; the list goes on – to perform live while local food trucks rumble up to offer meals, beer gardens and more. There's a whole section for kids' games and entertainment, while local artisans set up shop to sell their creations for visitors.

At the center of the neighborhood, residents head to Willow Park, taking their kids to the playground or playing at the sand volleyball court. The park also has a community pool for the hot Texas days. The Willow Waterhole, as a whole, is a 300-plus-acre wilderness system famous for being one of the first examples of what the Houston Chronicle calls "flood management as urban design."

There are great neighborhoods to run in and plenty of people take advantage. There is also a 24 Hour gym in the Meyerland Plaza! Overall the area is good for keeping up with your health and staying in good shape.

There is a good amount of police in the area, though it is still considered unsafe at night and certain areas.

In this area I live in, there are plenty of restaurants but the food in a majority of them are just okay. The Fuddruckers over here is great though!
