Rural Neighborhood in Huffman, Texas
Harris County 77336, 77357, 77532
Though it lies only about 30 miles from downtown Houston, Huffman Hollow is culturally different from the bustle of the city. Being alongside Lake Houston, Huffman attracts fishers and visitors from out of town, but not enough to sacrifice the quiet in the neighborhood or clog up the rural feel with tourists. Most of the vacation homes and boat rentals are on the opposite side of Lake Houston, leaving Huffman with the tranquility that residents expect and appreciate.
The sizes of properties vary, but Huffman is characterized by its spaciousness. The neighborhood sprawls with generous backyards and long driveways, and many homes sit on multiple acres of land. Most homes are standalone ranchers, but you will find larger Cape Cods and luxury lakeside homes in the area as well.
For schools, there are options such as Huffman Elementary, which has a gifted and talented program and a dyslexia and intervention program. Falcon Ridge Elementary is known for being student-centric, with anti-bullying campaigns and a variety of clubs such as Lego Club, Kindness Club and Robotics. Locals with older children can attend Huffman Middle School, which consistently runs student volunteer opportunities. Hargrave High School offers a wide-ranging fine arts program.
The area of Huffman is mostly tree-dense and secluded from its surrounding neighborhoods. The nearest chain grocery stores such as Kroger and Walmart are found in the neighboring town of Humble to the west.
While Huffman is quiet and rural, the neighborhood does offer some dining and entertainment options. A popular spot with locals to grab dinner and enjoy scenery is The Lake Houston Brewery, which offers food, beer, live music and events right on the waterfront. Lake Houston BBQ & Grill serves Southern comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner in a family-friendly environment.
Red Wolf Golf Resort is the neighborhood's spot for tee time since 1972. Its sprawling course is accompanied by a pro shop and a restaurant.
For serious golf enthusiasts, there are three major golf resorts to try over in Humble: Golf Club of Houston, Tour 18 Houston and Walden on Lake Houston. Locals visit these courses and appreciate the variety of course difficulties they offer, as well as other amenities.
Thrill seekers can visit the highly rated Houston Terror Dome, about 20 miles south, during the Halloween season. This is an outdoor fright experience that offers axe throwing, an escape room and a "selfie saloon," where visitors can take photos with the haunted attractions.
