East Warren is close to recreation and dining
East Warren is a suburb of Indianapolis, located between Interstates 465 and 70 and U.S. Route 40. “Residents of the area have a quick commute to downtown,” says Susan Forrest, Realtor with United Real Estate Indianapolis, who has sold homes nearby. “You can get to most places in Indianapolis within 20 minutes.” The neighborhood has a mix of commercial and residential real estate, and homes are arranged in communities with wide streets, sidewalks, and well-established shade trees. Restaurants and shopping options are plentiful, and there are also many recreational opportunities nearby.
Vietnamese food and easy shopping access
East Warren offers nearby access to retail and dining. Locals can pick up groceries from Kroger or Meijer, and big-box stores abound, including Best Buy, Walmart and The Home Depot. Restaurants run the gamut from Blueberry Hill Pancake House, which serves a full menu of breakfast favorites, to Pho 21, which specializes in Vietnamese cuisine. Marabou Lakay Restaurant and Bar and Five Guys, both across from the Washington Square Mall, give residents a choice between Caribbean food and burgers. .

Variety of housing in East Warren
Residential real estate in the area ranges from townhouses and mid-1900s ranch-style options to larger, traditional-style dwellings built in 2000 or later. Median list prices are around $200,000, and “many homes in the area are on larger lots than in surrounding neighborhoods,” Forrest says. There are communities for adults 55 and older, townhouses and houses along the golf course as well. For a three-bedroom ranch-style or split-level residence, listings are around $225,000. A three-bedroom traditional-style brick one along the golf course may list closer to $400,000.

Jake Greene Park and the AMC theater
East Warren has both outdoor and indoor activities available. Jake Greene Park has a playground with swings and slides, a large grassy play area and a splash pad for hot summer days. Ellenberger Park, about 5 miles away, is a popular destination for those living on the east side of Indianapolis. Designed by landscape architect George Edward Kessler in 1909, the park has tennis courts and a pool that residents can access for free. On cooler days, locals can roller skate at the Roller Cave or catch a movie at the AMC Washington Square 12. Members of the Maple Creek Country Club can swim in the club’s pool or play the 18-hole golf course designed by golf legend Pete Dye.

Community events at Ellenberger Park and the Warren Performing Arts Center
Friends of Ellenberger Park host community events throughout the year. In April, there is an Easter Egg-Stravaganza. From May through August, on Thursday nights, food trucks gather beside the park, and residents can come out to enjoy what the food trucks are serving. The Warren Performing Arts Center, part of Warren Central High’s campus, hosts concerts and plays for which locals can purchase tickets.
Warren Central High School accommodates multiple interests
Students in the area may attend Eastridge Elementary School, which is rated a C-plus on Niche. Creston Intermediate and Middle School, which gets a C, serves neighborhood children from fifth to eighth grades. Each cohort of learners at the school works with a set team of counselors and coaches throughout their time at the school, with the goal of building strong relationships between students and staff. At Warren Central High School, rated a B, there is a wide variety of clubs for interests such as photography, drama or radio. Their sports facilities allow students to compete in options including lacrosse, wrestling and swimming. Students can also use the Walker Career Center to begin learning hands-on skills to prepare them for their future.

Travel options around East Warren
One of the draws of the East Warren neighborhood is its close access to highway travel. Downtown Indianapolis is about 10 miles east via Interstate 70. Several airports around Indianapolis offer charter flights, but the nearest major airport is Indianapolis International Airport, about 22 miles west. It provides direct flights to Miami and Seattle. There is an Amtrak station in downtown Indianapolis, about 12 miles west, that can connect locals to New York and Boston. IndyGo buses stop along East 21st Street and North Franklin Road, running east to the Meijer on Washington Street and west to the downtown transit station, from about 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and with more limited hours on weekends and holidays. For medical emergencies, the nearest hospital is Community Hospital East, less than 3 miles away.
