Indianapolis suburb where locals relax by the creek
In the north Indianapolis neighborhood of Millersville, grist mills used to turn and churn out wheat flour, powered by the crisp waters of Fall Creek. Although the mills are long gone, today the creek provides a source of recreation and respite in this suburban neighborhood situated 10 miles from downtown Indianapolis. "Millersville was once a quiet farming community that's grown with the city along the peaceful banks of Fall Creek," says Miriam Odegard, a Realtor with United Real Estate Indianapolis. "People like to use the walking trails, and it's not unusual to see herons, eagles, deer and foxes all along the banks." Millersville's midcentury homes and mature tree canopies preserve the neighborhood's past. Residents stay connected to the action-packed city center thanks to Millersville's location near major roadways.
Residents of Millersville are able to enjoy plenty of privacy with larger plots and fences.

Fall Creek Trail flows all the way downtown
Walking along the waterfront is one of this neighborhood's luxuries. The Fall Creek Trail meanders along the neighborhood's east side along with the creek. It provides a paved pathway, big enough for two people to walk side-by-side, through manicured grassy areas with shade from lots of trees. "You can walk or bike along the trail, and it goes all the way into downtown," Odegard says. Millersville at Fall Creek Preserve provides an access point to the trail, with a sculpture of mill stones as a reminder of the neighborhood's past. Nature lovers can make the 3-mile trip to Broad Ripple Park, with hiking trails through the 10-acre woods and fitness classes at the new family center.
