Suburban living and proximity to DFW
Close to schools, parks, shopping and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Hillcrest Oaks offers its residents laid-back suburban living with easy access to all that Irving and the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex have to offer. Hillcrest Oaks is a quintessential suburban neighborhood, with streets that wind and loop throughout, often ending in cul-de-sacs. This tends to cut down on through traffic, making space for kids to ride their bikes or residents to gather outside.
Midcentury homes starting in the $200,000s in Hillcrest Oaks
While there are some two-story homes, buyers are more likely to find single-story, midcentury ranch-style houses with low-pitched roofs, large, front-facing windows and stone detailing. Most offer two-car garages, but the wide streets provide more parking for residents who need it. Lot sizes are about a quarter-acre, which offers plenty of room for kids to play on playsets, friends to congregate on patios, or to swim in private pools. Mature oaks, hardwoods, and evergreens are plentiful, dotting front yards and lining the sidewalks, providing pops of color and clusters of shade on sunny days. Prices range from around $250,000 to $415,000.
Signature Studies wing at Macarthur High
Neighborhood children attending public school start at Brandenburg Elementary, then move on to Travis Middle and Macarthur High, all of which are part of the Irving Independent School District. Brandenburg Elementary earns a C-plus on Niche and Travis Middle holds a B-minus. Macarthur High receives a B-plus rating, and it serves approximately 2,800 students from ninth to 12th grade. It has been renovated extensively since it opened in 1963, with the most recent renovation adding a new Signature Studies wing in 2019. For families interested in starting their kids at private school, there is also a faith-based school in the community, Wesleyan Academy, which serves pre-kindergarten through first grade.
Enjoying wildlife and the colorful playground at Jaycee Park
Residents looking to get out in the fresh air often head to Jaycee Park in the nearby Plymouth Park neighborhood. This large park offers a colorful playground where kids can burn off energy after a long day and open fields with tall trees. At the center of the park, a large pond is the prime place residents go to relax and watch the ducks and geese swim. Also located in the park is the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts, which draws art lovers from across the city. The non-profit Irving Arts Association runs the Center and offers a rotating series of exhibits from local artisans in its two galleries, plus art classes and workshops.
Shopping along West Airport Freeway
There's shopping both in and near the neighborhood, with most retailers lining the main thoroughfare, West Airport Freeway. Fiesta Mart is the closest grocery store, and Target is in Irving Town Center. The Irving Mall offers national retailers like Macy's, Foot Locker and Burlington. The community also has a wealth of chain and local restaurants to choose from. For burgers, people often head to local favorite Burger Island, which serves a variety of hamburgers, plus subs and chicken sandwiches in a casual environment.
Access to I-35 and DFW
State Highway 183 runs alongside the neighborhood's southern end, giving residents direct access to Interstate 35, which leads to Dallas, about 13 miles away. Hillcrest Oaks is also conveniently located about 7 miles from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
