Suburbia in the middle of the metroplex
Located in Irving, Plymouth Park offers residents a suburban lifestyle with some undeniable location perks. The neighborhood is close to both the Dallas area’s booming scene and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport thanks to easy access of Texas State Highway 183. “Affordable housing has been hard to find, but we have it here,” says David Parks, a 23-year local of Plymouth Park and Realtor at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s with 17 years of experience selling in the area. “But the centrality to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is what makes this place superb.” According to Parks, residents can get to the airport, downtown Dallas and events at the Toyota Music Factory in just minutes. It’s a place where locals can enjoy their quiet, tree-shaded residential streets and neighborhood parks and then hop into the car for quick errands near Irving Mall or shopping excursions in downtown Dallas.
Convenient commutes on Highway 183
Texas State Highway 183 runs along Plymouth Park’s north side, connecting to other major thoroughfares including Highways 114 and 161. There might be higher noise levels for those living closer to this highway, especially where it meets Airport Freeway. “Living near the airport doesn’t affect the noise levels in Plymouth Park at all, but maybe there’s more noise on the west side. 183 is rarely congested, the TEXpress helps it move,” Parks notes. It seems that proximity to this highway and the fact that Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is only 6 miles away comes with more advantages. “I can be at an airport gate in just 10 to 15 minutes.” However, being near this highly-trafficked area may impact the neighborhood’s crime score. According to CAP Index, Plymouth Park receives a 6 out of a possible 10 score, with an 8 in crimes related to motor vehicle theft. For those without a vehicle, there are a few DART bus stops along the south side of town on Irving Boulevard.
Latin American eats around town
Residents can grab groceries easily at Kroger, centrally located in town. Dining options around Plymouth Park include a few Latin American eateries. Mariscos La Marea is a Mexican spot that specializes in seafood dishes, while Pollo Campero serves Guatemalan cuisine. On the other side of Highway 183 is a shopping corridor with a variety of dine-in and takeout restaurants. Vila Brazil is a popular Brazilian steakhouse, and Burger Island plates up its namesake. Locals might venture west to the commercial center surrounding Irving Mall, where Target and chain restaurants are the big draw. “But if people really want to shop, they’re going into Dallas,” Parks says. Baylor Scott and White Medical Center is also conveniently located nearby toward the east side.

Centrality to Dallas and Toyota Music Factory
Plymouth Park residents have Highway 183 at their fingertips, which runs 13 miles east to Dallas and 23 miles west to Fort Worth. And as Parks mentioned, a lot of Plymouth Park residents are heading to the city for shopping excursions. “You can be in downtown Dallas in about 15 minutes,” Parks says. “And on the other side of Dallas, a lot of people go to the Galleria to shop.” For community events, locals just head into Old Downtown Irving, where they host the Fourth of July parade and Christmas functions. “Another great part about living here is being only 8 or 9 minutes away from Toyota Music Factory, which is a big concert and event venue that’s surrounded by dining and bars,” Parks adds.

Midcentury ranch houses with carports
Oak and pecan trees line the sidewalks where predominantly midcentury-era ranch homes with low-pitched roofs and small front porches sit side by side. Many houses have driveways and carports, and some sport attached garages and fenced-in backyards. Sizes range between 1,000 and 3,000 square feet, and prices run from $250,000 for a quaint dwelling with older fixtures to $550,000 for a property that has seen some recent updates to the interior and exterior.

Walks around the pond at Jaycee Park
A few neighborhood parks surround Plymouth Park, including Jaycee Park. Located right off Airport Freeway, residents enjoy the green space around the pond and the playground. “Parents with little kids will go to Jaycee for the swings and the slide,” Parks says. “And there’s a walking and biking trail that goes around the pond, where people will go feed the ducks.” Despite being near the highway, the sound of traffic doesn’t affect the park-goers. “They built a tall sound barrier wall around the park to protect it from the noise,” Parks adds. Jaycee Park Center for the Arts is located on-site, which displays a rotating series of local art exhibits. Residents can also venture to Wyche Park on the west side or Lively Park on the east side, both offering athletic fields and play areas – the latter including a skate park and a walking trail.
