Shopping and dining around The Avenues

The Avenues Shopping Center attracts Jacksonville locals to large retail chains like Belk and Dillard's. Residents may spend the day window-shopping along the busy aisles or visit the nearby Target for home goods and groceries. On the weekends, locals catch a film at the nearby Regal Avenues Movie Theater, take the kids to the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park or support local artisans on weekends at the Bayard Arts & Antique Market. Living in townhouses, single-family homes and apartment

Along sidewalk-less streets, native pine trees hang over ranch-style homes and Craftsman bungalows from the 1980s to 1990s. "You get a lot of square footage here for your money," says Claire Sheehan, local real estate agent at NetWorth Realty of Jacksonville. "Most residents own their homes, and people usually stay in their properties for years and years." New Traditional homes built over the last ten years are found inside the Bayard Tract subdivision. These residences range in price from $150,000 for a 1980 dwelling to just under $500,000 for contemporary homes. The largest housing development is the prestigious Deercreek Country Club. "The country club is a large community on the higher end. You won't be able to find a home under $500,000, and prices will go into the millions," Fitz says. The gated development dates back to 1989 and was recently acquired by golf and country club operator Heritage Golf Group. Buyers can also score a townhouse within the Baypointe community for $275,000 to $325,000.

In the spring, The Avenues Shopping Center hosts a small carnival featuring a Ferris wheel, kid-friendly rides and carnival food. Deercreek Country Club also offers a variety of social events and clubs for its members, including summer pool parties and holiday brunches.
