Picturesque residential surroundings
With a name like Beach Haven, this suburban community may sound like a luxury resort, but it’s actually home to hundreds of Jacksonville residents. Grassy lawns are dotted with palm trees, neighbors jog along the sidewalks and the Florida sun shines almost every day. “You’re still close to everything, with parks, basketball courts, gyms, theaters,” says Jackson Lanehart, a Realtor who has sold in the Jacksonville area for the past 48 years. “It’s an older neighborhood with new construction that’s great for retirees or families.” Though Beach Haven is 19 miles from downtown Jacksonville, all of those amenities are close by, and Jacksonville Beach is 6 miles away.
A kayak launch and nature trail are found at Castaway Island Preserve.
Sporting recreation and beach proximity
Area recreation is within 5 miles of the neighborhood. The five-acre Isle of Palms Park offers tennis courts, pickleball courts and paved walking trails, while the Windsor Parke Golf Club is a semi-private, 18-hole course where members can hit the links or enjoy lunch at the Windsor Grille. The Castaway Island Preserve contains some of North Florida’s most pristine wetlands, but Lanehart says the beach is the best attraction here. “Locals wake up early to get a parking spot and spend the whole day enjoying themselves," he says.
Architectural varieties line the streets
In Beach Haven, newly-constructed homes share the same streets as houses built over 50 years ago. “You can get older homes here for an affordable price compared to other neighborhoods,” Lanehart says. “And if you fix it up, it’s a good investment.” Midcentury ranch-style homes start at $200,000, while Spanish Mission-style or Craftsman-inspired homes from the 2000s range from $510,000 for a four-bed, two-bath with a pool to $1 million for estates with half-acre lots and waterfront views.
Large homes with two-car garages and multi-levels can be found in Beach Haven.

Catch Jaguars, Jumbo Shrimp or Icemen games
Community events aren't usually held in Beach Haven, so residents head 19 miles downtown for sports, music and festivals. Game days for the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium bring football fans out in black, gold and teal, and hockey fanatics won’t want to miss the Jacksonville Icemen, who play at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. The minor-league Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp play at 121 Financial Ballpark, while the Jacksonville University Dolphins play at John Sessions Stadium. There’s also a passionate music scene here, with annual jazz and blues festivals showcasing local talent as well as musicians from around the country.
A boulevard serving as a hub for local outlets
Beach Boulevard runs across the neighborhood's northern border, lined with shops and dining options. There’s a Walmart at Hodge Point Plaza and, down the road, a Target at Pablo Creek Plaza. Orange Blossoms is known for its Southern-style brunches, with favorites like biscuits and gravy. At Hong Kong Bistro, classic dim sum lunches are served from carts brought right to the table; for dinner, Lanehart recommends Vinny’s Italian, a family-owned restaurant where they make their own pasta sauce.
Beach Haven residents can head to Publix for their grocery needs.

Highly-regarded schooling
Local kids can attend J. Allen Axson Elementary, a public magnet school rated A-minus by Niche, and the B-plus rated Duncan U. Fletcher Middle, where after-school clubs include robotics, Lego-building and athletic programs like golf and soccer. Duncan U. Fletcher High earns an A-minus and offers Dual Enrollment courses for students to earn credit at Edward Waters University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Travel by bus, car or ferry
From Beach Haven, it’s a six-mile drive to the beach and a 19-mile drive downtown. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority provides bus routes throughout the city, and takes residents to and from the beach. JTA also offers the St. Johns River Ferry, which brings passengers to and from Mayport Village and Ft. George Island.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
