Between the sandy beachfront and buzzing downtown Jacksonville is the southside community of Brackridge/Secret Cove. Resident and local entrepreneur of Pamela Loves Pets LLC says, "The community is full of oak trees and older homes. It's a quiet neighborhood, but the St. Johns Town Center, Tinseltown and Avenues are right around the corner."
Developed in the 1950s, you'll find several midcentury dwellings made from durable cement blocks and brick. Ranches are prevalent and often found on quarter-acre lots with two-car garages. The community also contains developments with houses from the last twenty years, such as the Sienna Grove or the gated Wyngate Forest. The neighborhood has a variety of housing opportunities to choose from, including apartments, condos and townhomes. The average listing price ranges from $200,000 to $300,000, but houses with more than an acre of land can list for upwards of $450,000. Buyers can expect to pay between $175 to $250 per square foot for residences.
Young locals may start the school day at one of the highest-rated charter schools in the county, River City Science Academy. The charter has an A rating on Niche and accepts sixth to twelfth-grade students. Young residents may start their academic journey at Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary; the public school earned a B- on Niche and provides a liberal arts program to enrollees. The public Southside Middle has a magnet program for International Baccalaureate studies. Englewood High offers courses on career pathways such as Sports, Recreation and Entertainment Marketing, and Communications. The school also has an Early College program and was rated B on Niche for the College Prep category.
After school, children and their families can take in the fresh air at one of the community gathering spaces. Adjacent to the fire station is Brackridge Park. The area used to be a soil excavation site, but in the last thirty years, it has reflected the neighborhood's growing passion for soccer. Local leagues conduct matches in the park, while the open field is sometimes used for jogging or playing a game of fetch with the family dog. Around the corner, you'll find Touchton Road Park, a larger green space with 35 acres under land conservation. An onsite pond, picnic tables, a recently installed playground, and fitness equipment are available at this gathering space. BMX enthusiasts should head west to the biking trails at the back of Beach and Peach Park. Following Peach Drive to Beach Boulevard will lead to the local senior center.
The Brackridge/Secret Cove neighborhood has many retail, dining, and entertainment options along Beach and Southside Boulevards. A big box supercenter is at the intersection of these bustling thoroughfares, and Rowe's IGA grocery store is close by. Just east of the community is the Tinseltown district. You'll find a movie theater and a few laid-back dining spots. Brass Tacks Coffee is a popular hangout for sipping caffeinated beverages and lavender lattes. The bar and grill, Seven Bridges, has an in-house brewery and beer garden. The regional chain, Cantina Louie, has a vibrant atmosphere with colorful murals as a backdrop for tasty tacos and margaritas. Patrons visiting Rustic 21 enjoy the bistro's atmosphere and menu offerings with a Brazilian flair. The community is also close to the shopping mecca, St. Johns Town Center, containing over 170 storefronts.
Brackridge/Secret Cove is a residential area with retail hubs and convenient creature comforts. The neighborhood is centrally located, just 20 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from downtown.
