Waterfront suburb in Jacksonville's northside

Surrounded by the Trout and Ribault rivers that feed into stretches of woodsy green, Jacksonville's aptly named Lake Forest community has served the city for generations. The area developed as a suburb in the 1940s, offering a short commute for Northside residents, and today is home to around 3,000 residents. "Lake Forest residents are proud to call this place home," says local librarian Rapunzel Wooden, who works at the Bradham and Brooks Branch Library. "Most locals here have kept their homes in the family for generations, so the communal spirit is very strong here."
