Nestled against two lazy rivers in Jacksonville, Florida, the established neighborhood of Panama Park offers a residential suburb near the city's center. "This is certainly an active community and very eclectic," says Roxanna McLeod, a Panama Park Neighborhood Association member. "You have people who have lived here for over 70 years, new homeowners and renters. We love it because it's such a colorful place, and there's so much to do here! It really is a convenient location and so close to downtown. We can also bike to the Jacksonville Zoo since it's across the river!" she explains excitedly. Roxanna has lived in the community for over ten years and is heading up the new community garden in Panama Park.

Fishing off Main Street Bridge

Panama Park offers ample opportunities to enjoy the North Florida landscape. With the Trout and St. Johns Rivers touching the banks of the neighborhood, fishing and boating are pastimes for locals. The Main Street Bridge also serves as a public pier where residents are found throughout the day with fishing poles and bait from local seafood markets like Trout River Fish Co. The community also has friendly private marinas along the eastern side of Panama Park to the east. A dedicated green space is tucked away in the north, bearing the same name as the neighborhood. Once the largest recreational area in North Jacksonville, the park contains an open sports field and baseball diamond for public use. Locals practice their tennis swing or free throws on the tennis and basketball courts. The park also has play areas shaded in trees and a paved walking track around the baseball field.
