Home styles and prices are varied
Homebuyers can choose from various houses, including custom new builds in planned subdivisions and ranch-style homes on sprawling lots. Townhouse communities and estates on large plots also dot the area. “We have homes here in the 100,000s and in the 800,000s. It’s a great market to be in because there are homes for everyone,” Bost says. New builds come in a variety of architectural styles. Popular options are contemporary, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival. Older homes are often farmhouse, bi-level and ranch-style. Smaller homes built in the mid-1900s can sell for between $100,000 and $200,000, while larger ones can exceed $345,000. Newer builds range from $349,000 to around $620,000, and large estates top out around $840,000.

Kids may attend schools in the West Jefferson Hills School District. They can begin their schooling at Gill Hall Elementary School and Pleasant Hills Middle School, graded an A and B-plus, respectively. They can move up to Thomas Jefferson High School, graded a B-plus. Thomas Jefferson High is known for its football program. Over the years, the team has won 15 championships. Most recently, the team won the 2020 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association State Championship.

Routes 51, 43, 885 run through town
Pennsylvania Route 51 runs through the center of Jefferson Hills and leads to Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania Routes 43 and 885 also run through the area and connect to several major highways, including U.S. Interstate Highway 376. Residents can easily access medical care since the Jefferson Regional Medical Center is on the north end of town. Pittsburgh Regional Transit serves the community. Public bus stops are along Route 51. For international travel, residents can head to Pittsburgh International Airport, just under 28 miles northwest.

While the community doesn’t have large shopping centers, it does offer mini-marts and a Dollar General for necessities. For additional grocery needs, most residents head 4 miles north to Century III Plaza in Pleasant Hills, where there is a Walmart, Sam’s Club, Home Depot and more. When it comes to grub, Jefferson Hills has a few local options. Yoli’s Cucina and Craft House sits on the corner of Payen Hill Road and Pennsylvania Route 885. It’s a family-owned Italian restaurant known for its generous portions of pasta and specialty pizzas. A new spot in town is The Turnaround Restaurant. It is set to open in early 2024. Its menu boasts everything from crab cakes to club sandwiches.

Jefferson Hills is home to five community parks
The 26-acre 885 Andrew Reilly Memorial Park is the largest of the bunch. It’s located on the north end of town and offers residents access to ball fields, a basketball court, shaded pavilions, a sand volleyball pit, and batting cages. Five miles across town sits another large recreation ground, Gill Hall Park. It boasts several basketball courts, a pickleball court, a playground and a pavilion. About another 5 miles south sits Beedle Park. It spans 20 acres and features a playground and baseball and soccer fields. For hikers and cyclists, the Great Allegheny Passage also runs through the community. The 150-mile trail system runs from Maryland to Pennsylvania.
