The road to development in Medlock Bridge

Medlock Bridge was built by the four-lane road that runs east of the neighborhood. In the late 1950s, Medlock Bridge Road paved the way for new developments, including the area's first high school and fire station. Six decades later, Medlock Bridge is a family-friendly community with recreational amenities, shopping centers and local educational options. “It’s very kid-focused and very family-oriented,” says Karim Badani, owner of Ivy Kids Early Learning Center in Johns Creek. “It’s definitely a good place for anyone who’s moving into this area to raise kids.”

Traditional housing and new townhomes

The neighborhood is located between two state roads and features a winding street pattern with plenty of cul-de-sacs and pedestrian pathways. Most homes were built during the 1990s and feature two to three stories with big front yards. Cape Cod and farmhouse-style houses on the south end cost between $600,000 and $800,000, while traditional houses with brick and stucco exteriors to the north cost between $800,000 and $1 million. New townhomes valued between $700,000 and $900,000 are also available along Ward’s Crossing Way by the southwestern corner.

A-rated public and private schools around Johns Creek

Medlock Bridge Elementary sits in the middle of the neighborhood and was named among the top five elementary schools in Fulton County. It has an A on Niche for its quality of teachers and academia. Autrey Mill Middle is 4 miles west and also earned an A on Niche. Johns Creek High School has a 97% graduation rate and an A-plus rating on Niche. Private Medlock Bridge Montessori serves ages 1 to 6, and after-school enrichment programs are offered through the Cambridge Academy of Music and the First Fine Arts & Design Academy. “They’re some of the best-rated schools in Georgia,” Badani says. “If people are looking for a safe place with good schools, I think this is absolutely the best area they can be in.”

Playgrounds, ponds and pools around the neighborhood

Families have two community clubhouses they can go to on both the west and northeastern ends of the neighborhood, both of which feature their own pools, playgrounds and tennis courts managed by the homeowners association. The park at the Groomsbridge Clubhouse has the biggest playground for kids to play on with a soccer field and half-courts for basketball, while the pool at the Wilson Road Clubhouse has a water slide and swim lanes for children to splash into.

Medlock markets, shops and restaurants

There are three shopping centers on the east end located alongside the main road. Medlock Market sits to the northeast and has a variety of brunch, pizza and Japanese restaurants. Across the street is the Medlock Village Shopping Center, which has Taiwanese cuisine at the Hunan Garden and English tea experiences at the Antique Cafe. Even more shops and restaurants are by Medlock Crossing in the southeastern corner with offerings including a furniture store, a motorsports shop and a gardening center. A 2-mile drive down State Bridge Road takes residents to most of their grocery stores in Medlock Corners, which includes Publix, Target and Whole Foods Supermarket.

Walkability and limited public transportation

While many of the homes are within walking distance of neighborhood amenities, locals here rely on their own cars to get around. The closest 24-hour urgent care facilities are 3 miles east at Northside Hospital Duluth and 3 miles north at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. The closest airport is 40 miles southwest at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Seasonal events all year round

The community has a full calendar of events to look forward to every year. The Calcutta tennis tournament and 5K Fun Run take place in the spring, while the annual pool party is held every summer. There’s a pub night and an adult Halloween party every fall, and the winter brings holiday parties for both children and adults alike.

Environmental factors

The CAP Index crime score is 1 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4. Noise levels are high along the main roads, and the southern half of the neighborhood is in an ember zone due to the high tree density. Flooding around the local lake and creek can affect some of the housing on the northern end.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
