Linwood YMCA serves as heartbeat of Ingleside community
Ingleside is a southeastern Kansas City neighborhood with a tight-knit community. "It's very community- and family-oriented. It has its struggles, but overall, the community comes together to lift one another up and overcome those struggles," Linwood YMCA Executive Director Wesley Triplett says. His branch offers classes, rec sports, after-school care and wellness workshops for mothers, but it isn't the only organization offering support. Several houses of worship, including the Starlight Missionary Baptist Church of K.C., Rescue Baptist Church, Cleveland Ave Baptist Church and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, are also active in the community.
The neighborhood is also centrally located. Downtown is 4 miles away, reachable via nearby bus stops, and Interstate 70 is nearby for car drivers.
The Linwood YMCA offers programs for all ages.

A dozen RideKC stops nearby
Ingleside's location, 4 miles from downtown Kansas City, makes it commuter-friendly, especially with more than a dozen RideKC bus stops around the neighborhood. "A lot of the neighbors here rely on public transportation to get around," Triplett says. Interstate 70 cuts into the northeast corner of Ingleside, providing instant access to one of the country's longest and busiest interstates.

Kansas City O.G. BBQ joint within 2 miles
Shopping and dining require a trip outside the neighborhood. Ingleside is 2 miles from Arthur Bryant's Barbeque, one of Kansas City's best-known barbecue joints, open since 1908. About a mile west of Bryant's, El Pulgarcito serves authentic Salvadoran food such as pupusas and meat- or vegetable-filled pastries that are hot out of the oven. For more Latin food choices, fresh produce, homemade bakery items, and groceries, El Mercado Fresco is about 2 miles away on Independence Avenue. Another option is Save A Lot on Truman Road.

Central Park and Linwood Y anchor community
Many organizations work with residents to provide services and support. "The Linwood YMCA has been an essential part of this community for the past five decades, supporting K.C.'s eastern corridor in several different facets of life from no school daycare, college and career counseling and helping older adults retain mental and physical health through an active, vibrant lifestyle," Triplett says. A new teen tech center features classes in coding, programming and other in-demand skills for fifth-graders through seniors. The adjacent University Health Truman Medical Center operates a Community Care Clinic in the back of the Linwood Center. "Thanks to this clinic being right here, people can do 80% of the stuff that would otherwise take them at least 40 minutes using public transportation just to arrive at another medical facility for an appointment," Triplett says.
Central Park anchors the neighborhood's southwest corner, offering tennis courts, a playground and green space. Ingleside is also close to Cypress Park, designed by Dale Eldred, a world-famous sculptor fascinated by light's play on structures. The park has a playground and several small mounds meant for climbing and exploration.

Ingleside's support of Central High School sports teams recalls Friday Night Lights zeal
One of the most popular free events can be found right at Central High School when the football and basketball teams play.
"We support Central High School by attending football and basketball games. Taking in these games is a phenomenal thing to do. The basketball team went to state last year. They're very competitive in football, basketball, and track and field," Triplett says.
Support extends beyond athletics, too. "We also do a breakfast with Santa, supporting over 500 kids with toys for Christmas. The Hope House does a lot of community events, like the trunk or treat on October 26th. We also partner with Front Porch to support mother-infant wellness through parenting education and providing supplies like diapers," Triplett says.
