South Kansas City neighborhood fosters friendships and outdoor adventures
Noble and Gregory Ridge is a south Kansas City neighborhood next to Swope Park, the city's largest green space and one of the country's largest municipal parks. That means zipline adventures, close-up animal encounters and outdoor shows are just around 2 miles away. But outdoor space is just one thing keeping longtime residents loyal to their neighborhood. Another is the strong relationship with their neighbors. "If something happens in someone's family, neighbors will stop by and bring them food or cards. People are very friendly," says Gloria Wilson, a Senior Realtor at Platinum Realty with over 30 years of experience selling homes in Kansas City. Several nearby churches also strengthen community ties through group worship, ministries, and free resources like food pantries.

Zipline and zoo at Swope Park
Noble and Gregory Ridge's green spaces are unlike any other in the city. Spanning 1,805 acres, Swope Park's diverse amenities attract over two million visitors each year. From a golf course to a zipline to a zoo, it's easy to spend a full day here. On the park's south end, hiking trails traverse through woodlands and rocky glades. There are also sports facilities open for daily activities like soccer, tennis and disc golf. The Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium houses over 1,700 animals. Zookeepers let visitors get up close and personal with animal interactions and informative chats. Go Ape is a venue for thrill-seekers with a zipline and rope course through the treetops. Noble and Gregory Ridge also has its own community park. At Noble Park, a walking trail loops around a spacious grassy meadow. A playground also keeps the young ones occupied with swings, slides and monkey bars.
Fixer-uppers and quality renovations
Most residents rent or own single-family homes on the neighborhood's west side. Homes run small here, with an average size of around 1,100 square feet. Front yards are also small but well maintained with flower beds and tidy lawns. The neighborhood is brimming with bungalows from the '20s and '30s, with gabled entries and front porches. Some houses show extra craftsmanship with stone columns and chimneys. There are also raised and low-lying ranches from the '50s. With lots of fixer-upper opportunities, prices may start at a low $70,000. Houses are generally well maintained, with the potential for cosmetic upgrades like new flooring, kitchen countertops and appliances. Many homes have already been renovated. "People are really putting in quality work, especially investors," Wilson says. A move-in-ready, three-bedroom property may go for $155,000.
