South K.C. neighborhood has Santa Fe Trail roots
A 100-foot-long red bridge crossing the Blue River is the namesake and local landmark distinguishing Red Bridge North. The quiet, 1970s-era suburban neighborhood in south Kansas City is 16 miles south of downtown Kansas City. Residents are just as likely to travel half that distance to Overland Park, the Country Club Plaza or Grandview for shopping, dining and entertainment.
Red Bridge North is going through a transition, says Charles Gilbert, a Realtor with Sellstate Heartland Realty who's been selling homes in the area for nine years.
"New families are moving in. They are starting to have turnover. It used to be families who stayed here for a long time," Gilbert says.
Red Bridge North is a quintessential south Kansas City community.
Red Bridge North is filled with green spaces, mid century charm and plenty of shopping areas.

Ranch-style homes with a mid-century modern vibe
Mid-century homes here are generally one story with front or side-loaded garages and roomy driveways. Mature trees line the streets, which include some sidewalks. Ranch-style and split-level homes come in styles that include French Country, Tudors, and traditional.
"They're great starter homes. It's one of the few places where you can get affordable housing that's under $300,000," Gilbert says.
Home prices range from $275,000 to $500,000. However, most sell for between $275,000 and $350,000. A 3-bedroom townhouse in new developments such as Red Bridge Greens Villas can sell for $470,000.

Improved Red Bridge Shopping Center within walking distance
The Red Bridge Shopping Center is undergoing a facelift. Several new businesses have opened, including Berries + Honey Charcuterie and The Limit Pub & Grub. They join existing neighborhood favorites such as Crows Coffee and Tanners Bar & Grill. Parking and lighting improvements are underway in the shopping center, and in the summer of 2024, the Red Bridge Farm Fresh Market will open its doors.
In late 2019, the shopping center became the new home of the Red Bridge branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library. "We have all kinds of great amenities like story time, book groups meeting rooms and laptops you can use at different tables," says Carrie Torrence, the branch's Early Literacy Specialist.
While at the shopping center, kids can also check out the Regnier Family Wonderscope Children's Museum of Kansas City.
