Multi-cultural neighborhood offers rich history and diversity
South Indian Mound is a multi-cultural community in the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood of Kansas City, six miles from downtown KC. It’s named for what’s thought to be a ceremonial, rather than a burial site. Native Americans built this Mound a thousand years ago and visitors have been curious about it ever since.

At the time that Reece Nichols realtor Connie Balano grew up here, the neighborhood had a lot of Italian residents. She compares her childhood version of the neighborhood to The Hill in St. Louis.
